On 20 April 2010, incumbent mayor Bill Ham Jr. announced his bid for re-election, aiming for a fourth consecutive term. His campaign chairman was also confirmed to be Charles Pick at this time. [2] He officially qualified for the ballot on 7 July 2010. [3]
Thompson labelled himself as a Christian conservative, primarily running to ensure that Ham did not run unopposed. [4]
Ham would go on to beat his only opponent, Paul Thompson in a landslide victory. [5]

Thomas Hawley Tuberville is an American politician and retired college football coach who is the senior United States senator from Alabama, a seat he has held since 2021. Before entering politics, Tuberville was the head football coach at Auburn University from 1999 to 2008. He was also the head football coach at the University of Mississippi from 1995 to 1998, Texas Tech University from 2010 to 2012, and the University of Cincinnati from 2013 to 2016.
The 2009 election for Mayor of New York City took place on Tuesday, November 3. The incumbent Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, an independent who left the Republican Party in 2008, won reelection on the Republican and Independence Party/Jobs & Education lines with 50.7% of the vote over the retiring City Comptroller, Bill Thompson, a Democrat, who won 46.3%. Thompson had won the Democratic primary election on September 15 with 71% of the vote over City Councilman Tony Avella and Roland Rogers.
