The 2018 Alabama attorney general election. was held on Tuesday,November 6, incumbent attorney general Steve Marshall, who was appointed by Former Governor Robert J. Bentley defeated the Democratic candidate, Joseph Siegelman, the son of the former Governor Don Siegelman.

During her term the office established a healthcare fraud task force which collected approximately $750M in qui tam settlements, as well as obtaining over 125 convictions of elected and appointed officials and contractors in public corruption prosecutions. The 2014 Alabama gubernatorial election took place on November 4, 2014, to elect the governor of Alabama. Incumbent Governor Robert J. Bentley won a second term over Democrat Parker Griffith. This was the first Alabama gubernatorial race where either Choctaw and/or Conecuh counties voted Republican. This alongside the concurrent Senate race is the last time Jefferson County voted Republican in any statewide election. Bentley did not complete this term; he resigned in April 2017 due to a scandal and was succeeded by fellow Republican Kay Ivey.

He previously served as district attorney in Marshall County for 16 years.
