The 2018 Ohio Senate election was held on November 6, 2018, with the primary election held on May 8, 2018. Ohio voters elected state senators in the 17 odd-numbered Ohio Senate districts. State senators elected in 2018 are eligible to serve a four-year term beginning January 2019 and ending December 2022. These elections coincided with elections for Ohio Governor, the Ohio House, the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and other statewide offices.

Contents

Despite a moderate statewide swing that allowed the Democrats to win the popular vote, the Republicans retained their supermajority of 24 seats in the Senate, compared to the Democrats' 9 seats.

The 2018 United States Senate elections were held on November 6, 2018. Among the 100 seats, the 33 of Class 1 were contested in regular elections while two others were contested in special elections due to Senate vacancies in Minnesota and Mississippi. The winners were elected to six-year terms running from January 3, 2019, to January 3, 2025. Senate Democrats had 26 seats up for election, while Senate Republicans had nine seats up for election.

Regularly scheduled elections were held for 34 of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate, the winners of which will serve six-year terms in the U.S. Congress from January 3, 2023, to January 3, 2029, starting with the 118th United States Congress. Nine state governors ran for reelection and all nine won, while Democrat Steve Bullock of Montana could not run again due to term limits and Republican Gary Herbert of Utah decided to retire at the end of his term.

The 2024 United States Senate election in Ohio will be held on November 5, 2024, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of Ohio. Primary elections are scheduled to take place on March 19, 2024. Incumbent three-term Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is running for reelection to a fourth term in office. Brown is one of three Democratic Senators up for re-election in states that Donald Trump won in both 2016 and 2020, alongside Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Jon Tester of Montana. Brown's re-election is considered essential for Democrats' chances to retain the Senate majority in 2024.
