The 1826 Ohio gubernatorial election was held on 10 October 1826, in order to elect the Governor of Ohio. National Republican candidate and former Acting Governor Allen Trimble defeated Democratic-Republican candidates Alexander Campbell, Benjamin Tappan and John Bigger. [1]
On election day, 10 October 1826, National Republican candidate Allen Trimble won the election by a margin of 66,710 votes against his foremost opponent Democratic-Republican candidate Alexander Campbell, thereby gaining National Republican control over the office of Governor. Trimble was sworn in as the 10th Governor of Ohio on 19 December 1826. [2]

Presidential elections were held in the United States on November 7, 1876. Republican Governor Rutherford B. Hayes of Ohio very narrowly defeated Democrat Governor Samuel J. Tilden of New York. Following President Ulysses S. Grant's decision to retire after his second term, U.S. Representative James G. Blaine emerged as frontrunner for the Republican nomination; however, Blaine was unable to win a majority at the 1876 Republican National Convention, which settled on Hayes as a compromise candidate. The 1876 Democratic National Convention nominated Tilden on the second ballot.
Allen Trimble was a Federalist and National Republican politician from Ohio. He served as the eighth and tenth governor of Ohio, first concurrently as Senate Speaker, later elected twice in his own right.

The 1994 United States Senate election in Ohio took place on November 8, 1994. Incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Howard Metzenbaum decided to retire after 19 years in the United States Senate. Republican nominee Mike DeWine won the open seat against Democratic nominee Joel Hyatt, Metzenbaum's son-in-law. Independent candidate, conservative anti-abortion activist Joe Slovenec performed very well, getting over 7% of the vote. DeWine was the first Republican to win a U.S. Senate race in Ohio since 1970.
