The A584 is a road in Lancashire, England, that runs from Clifton, near Preston, to Little Bispham, in the north of Blackpool.
The road runs a total distance of approximately 19 miles (31 km), largely following the Fylde coastline, and for 7 miles (11 km) forms Blackpool's promenade.
It begins in Clifton, west of Preston, as a junction on the A583 Blackpool Road. As Preston New Road, it runs west for 3 miles (5 km), bypassing Freckleton and then becomes Lytham Road through Warton towards Lytham, where it becomes the coast road along Lytham Green. From here it continues west through Fairhaven and St Annes-on-the-Sea following the coast as it turns to the north, as Clifton Drive.
The road enters Blackpool on the coast at Starr Gate, near Blackpool Airport, about 7 miles (11 km) from Lytham. It continues north up the coast for a further 7 miles (11 km), as Blackpool Promenade (called the Queen's Promenade after Gynn Square), passing through the town centre as well as many well-known landmarks, including the Pleasure Beach, the Sandcastle Waterpark, Blackpool Tower and the town's three piers. The 5-mile (8 km) stretch between Starr Gate and Bispham is also the site of Blackpool Illuminations during the months of September and October. North of Bispham, the road passes through the suburb of Norbreck and the large Norbreck Castle Hotel before reaching Little Bispham. At this point, it moves inland for roughly half a mile to terminate at the A587 Fleetwood Road, just south of Cleveleys. Between Starr Gate and Little Bispham, the road runs adjacent to the tram tracks.

Cleveleys is a town on the Fylde Coast of Lancashire, England, about 4 miles (6 km) north of Blackpool and 2 miles (3 km) south of Fleetwood. It is part of the Borough of Wyre. With its neighbouring settlement of Thornton, Cleveleys was part of the former urban district of Thornton-Cleveleys and is part of the Blackpool Urban Area. In 2011 the Cleveleys Built-up area sub division had a population of 10,754.

Blackpool Illuminations is an annual lights festival, founded in 1879 and first switched on 18 September that year, held each autumn in the British seaside resort of Blackpool on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire. Also known locally as The Lights or The Illuminations, they run each year for 66 days, from late August until early November at a time when most other English seaside resorts' seasons are coming to an end. They are 6.2 miles (10 km) long and use over one million bulbs. The display stretches along the Promenade from Starr Gate at the south end of the town to Bispham in the north. Since 2020 the illuminations season has been extended to run until after the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The most recent season ran from 1 September 2023 until 7 January 2024, the upcoming 2024–25 will run from 30 August 2024 to 5 January 2025.

The Preston and Wyre Railway was promoted to open up agricultural land in the Fylde in Lancashire, access a new port at what became Fleetwood and the Lancaster Canal at Preston: it opened in 1840. An associated company built the dock leading to the company changing its name to the Preston and Wyre Railway, Harbour and Dock Company. Passenger business was more buoyant than expected, and the company built branch lines to the nascent resort of Blackpool and Lytham that opened in 1846. At that time the line was leased by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway and later the London and North Western Railway took a share in the lease which was later converted to outright ownership. The Preston and Wyre Railway continued to be jointly owned as the Preston and Wyre Joint Railway.
