The A516 road is a road in Derbyshire that runs from the A50 Junction 5, to the A601 in Derby. The road is used mostly for traffic flowing from the A50 to the A38.
The road begins as Derby Road in Hilton, South Derbyshire, at a junction with the A50 ( 52°52′37″N1°37′31″W / 52.8770°N 1.6253°W ). The former route through Hilton is now the A5132. The trunk road bypasses Etwall crossing the former GNR Derbyshire and Staffordshire Extension which is now a cycle route (Route 54), finishing at a roundabout; the £2.6m bypass opened in February 1992. At the roundabout on the left is the large Seven Wells pub. The road passes the TOTAL Etwall Road Service Station on the right and climbs a hill. Approaching Mickleover, it becomes a dual-carriageway. Passing the Mickleover Court Hotel, the road enters the City of Derby. The road used to pass through Mickleover, which is now the B5020. The £5.2m Mickleover bypass opened on 19 February 1975. This included two junctions with the A38. It shares the route with the A38, at which point it is three lanes, passing the Mickleover Golf Course to the right. It meets the B5020 former route at a large roundabout becoming non-trunked. On the left is The Mallard, a Beefeater pub next-door to the Derby West Premier Inn, and on the right is the newly extended Royal Derby Hospital. As the dual-carriageway Uttoxeter New Road it meets the A5111 Kingsway at traffic lights. It is dual-carriageway, passing the Bemrose Community School on the right, to another set of traffic lights, at which point the former Uttoxeter Old Road is to the left. It is single carriage way all the way through California, Derby to the A601 Stafford Street junction ( 52°55′17″N1°29′09″W / 52.9213°N 1.4858°W ). A new roundabout is being constructed here as part of the Connecting Derby improvement.

The A40 is a trunk road which runs between London and Goodwick (Fishguard), Wales, and officially called The London to Fishguard Trunk Road (A40) in all legal documents and Acts. Much of its length within England has been superseded by motorways, such as the M40, and has lost its trunk road status, though it retains it west of Gloucester, including its length within Wales. It is approximately 260 miles (420 km) long. The eastern section from Denham, Buckinghamshire to Wheatley, Oxfordshire is better served by the M40 and its former function of linking London with Cheltenham and Gloucester has been taken by the M4, A419 and A417 via Swindon.
The A6 is one of the main historic north–south roads in England. It runs from Luton in Bedfordshire to Carlisle in Cumbria, although it formerly started at a junction with the A1 at Barnet. It is the fourth longest numbered road in Britain; only the A1, A38 and A30 are longer.
The A38, parts of which are known as Devon Expressway, Bristol Road and Gloucester Road, is a major A-class trunk road in England.
The A57 is a major road in England. It runs east from Liverpool to Lincoln via Warrington, Cadishead, Irlam, Patricroft, Eccles, Salford and Manchester, then through the Pennines over the Snake Pass, around the Ladybower Reservoir, through Sheffield and past Worksop. Between Liverpool and Glossop, the road has largely been superseded by the M62, M602 and M67 motorways. Within Manchester a short stretch becomes the Mancunian Way, designated A57(M).
The A12 is a major road in southern England. It runs north-east/south-west between London and the coastal town of Lowestoft in the north-eastern corner of Suffolk, following a similar route to the Great Eastern Main Line until Ipswich. A section of the road between Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth became part of the A47 in 2017. Between the junctions with the M25 and the A14, the A12 forms part of the unsigned Euroroute E30. Unlike most A roads, this section of the A12, together with the A14 and the A55, has junction numbers as if it were a motorway.
The A61 is a major trunk road in England connecting Derby and Thirsk in North Yorkshire by way of Alfreton, Clay Cross, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Barnsley, Wakefield, Leeds, Harrogate and Ripon. The road is closely paralleled by the M1 motorway between Derby and Leeds.
Mickleover is a large suburban village of Derby, in Derbyshire, England. It is 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Derby city centre, 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Burton-upon-Trent, 19 miles (31 km) west of Nottingham city centre, 13 miles (21 km) southeast of Ashbourne and 12 miles (19 km) northeast of Uttoxeter.
The A50 is a major trunk road in England between Warrington and Leicester; historically it was also a major route from London to Leicester.
The A11 is a major trunk road in England. It runs roughly north east from London to Norwich, Norfolk, although after the M11 opened in the 1970s and then the A12 extension in 1999, a lengthy section has been downgraded between the suburbs of east London and the north-west corner of the county of Essex. It also multiplexes/overlaps with the A14 on the Newmarket bypass.
The A55, also known as the North Wales Expressway is a major road in Wales and England, connecting Cheshire and north Wales. The vast majority of its length from Chester to Holyhead is a dual carriageway primary route, with the exception of the Britannia Bridge over the Menai Strait and several short sections where there are gaps in between the two carriageways. All junctions are grade separated apart from a roundabout east of Penmaenmawr and another nearby in Llanfairfechan. Initially, the road ran from Chester to Bangor. In 2001, it was extended across Anglesey to the ferry port of Holyhead parallel to the A5. The road improvements have been part funded with European money, under the Trans-European Networks programme, as the route is designated part of Euroroute E22.
The A52 is a major road in the East Midlands, England. It runs east from a junction with the A53 at Newcastle-under-Lyme near Stoke-on-Trent via Ashbourne, Derby, Stapleford, Nottingham, West Bridgford, Bingham, Grantham, Boston and Skegness to the east Lincolnshire coast at Mablethorpe. It is approximately 147 miles (237 km) long.
The A500 is a major primary A road in Staffordshire and Cheshire, England. It is dual carriageway for most of its length and connects Nantwich, junctions 16 and 15 of the M6 motorway with the city of Stoke-on-Trent. It is 19 miles (31 km) long.
The A511 road is a 21-mile (34 km) stretch of mainly single-carriageway road which runs northwest from Markfield in Leicestershire, England to Foston in South Derbyshire.
The A601(M) is a motorway in Carnforth, Lancashire, England. It is 1.3 miles (2.1 km) long, and meets the M6 at Junction 35. The A601(M) is not the A601 under motorway restrictions, as is the usual explanation for such a classification in the UK. The A601 itself is the Derby inner ring road, over 100 miles (160 km) away.
The A453 road was formerly the main trunk road connecting the English cities of Nottingham and Birmingham. However, the middle section of this mainly single-carriageway road has largely been downgraded to B roads or unclassified roads following the construction of the parallel M42-A42 link around 1990. The M42 was originally meant to pass further north than it does, and to join the M1 at Sandiacre in Derbyshire. The M42/A42 does not enter Derbyshire, but instead joins the M1 closer to the A453 junction at Kegworth. The A42 shadows the former A453 from Appleby Magna to Castle Donington. The road historically connected the East Midlands with the West Midlands.
The A54 road is a road in England linking Chester in Cheshire with Buxton in Derbyshire. Its route through both urban and steep rural areas presents a challenge to Cheshire County Council in maintaining the safety of the road. Many years ago it was the main east–west route in Cheshire. The importance of the A54 through Middlewich and Winsford decreased in the 1970s and 1980s with the building of the M56 motorway and dualling of the A556 at Northwich. The section through Winsford carries approximately 30,000 vehicles per day.
The A617 road runs through the northern East Midlands, England, between Newark-on-Trent and Chesterfield.
The A610 is an A-road in England, which runs from Nottingham to Ambergate, where it joins the A6.
The A631 is a road running from Sheffield, South Yorkshire to Louth, Lincolnshire in England. It passes through the counties of South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. The road has many towns on its route including Rotherham, Maltby, Gainsborough and Market Rasen. It is mostly single road throughout its length but has some stretches of dual carriageway as well.
The City of Peterborough in East Anglia has an extensive and well integrated road network, owing partly to its status as a new town. Since the 1960s, the city has seen considerable expansion and its various suburbs are linked by a system of parkways.
