Meerut is a city in Meerut district of the western part of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The city lies 80 km (50 mi) northeast of the national capital New Delhi, within the National Capital Region and 480 km (300 mi) west of the state capital Lucknow.
Bareilly is a city in Bareilly district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is among the largest metropolises in Western Uttar Pradesh and is the centre of the Bareilly division as well as the historical region of Rohilkhand. The city lies in the Indo-Gangetic Plains, about 252 kilometres (157 mi) north west of the state capital, Lucknow, and 265 kilometres (165 mi) east of the national capital, New Delhi. With a population of 903,668 in 2011, it is the eighth most populous city in the state, seventeenth in northern India and fifty-fourth in India. It is located on the bank of Ramganga River and is the site of the Ramganga Barrage built for canal irrigation.

The Punjabi Saudagaran-e-Delhi, sometimes referred to as the Qaum-e-Punjabian, Delhi Walay, Aldehlawi, or simply Shamsi Biradari are a community of Muslim Khatris that historically came from Sargodha in Punjab and then lived mainly in Old Delhi, India. They also settled in a number of other cities such as towns in western Uttar Pradesh, such as Agra, Aligarh, Meerut, Moradabad, Bareilly, Rampur, Kanpur; including areas within western Uttar Pradesh that now falls in the state of Uttarakhand; namely Nainital and Haldwani. After the partition of India, and subsequent independence of Pakistan in 1947, many members of the community migrated to Pakistan, particularly Karachi and Lahore, while few chose to migrate to Mecca and Medina.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation(UPMRC) is a joint venture company that operates the Lucknow Metro and Kanpur Metro. The UPMRC is also constructing the Agra Metro and Meerut Metro, with the Varanasi Metro, Prayagraj Metro, Gorakhpur Metro, and Bareilly Metro under consideration. The company's headquarters is at Vipin Khand, Gomti Nagar Lucknow
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is a joint venture company of the Government of India and the states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. The NCRTC is the owner of RapidX, the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project across the National Capital Region (NCR), inaugurated on 20 October 2023. It is operated by Deutsche Bahn.
The Meerut Metro is an under-construction rapid transit system, which will serve the city of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is being built in two phases, out of which the first phase with the first line will cover 23.6 km (14.7 mi) with 13 stations, from Modipuram to Meerut South. It will have nine elevated, three underground stations, one at-grade station as the depot station at Modipuram, and four stations integrated with the Delhi–Meerut RRTS on a single corridor, making the metro the first such rapid transit system in India to be merged directly with a regional railway system. The second phase will include a second line covering 15 km (9.3 mi) from Shradhapuri Phase-II to Jagrati Vihar, with 12 stations, out of which seven will elevated and five will be underground, thereby taking the overall length to 38.6 km (24.0 mi). It will also be the fastest metro of India, at an operational speed of 120 km/h (75 mph).
Shaheed Sthal metro station, also known as New Bus Adda metro station, is the terminal metro station of the Red Line in the Delhi Metro. It is located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The metro station serves is closest to NH 58 bus station, which carries passengers from Meerut to New Delhi and is also close to Red Mall Cinepolis. It is on the link road which connects NH58 to NH24.
The Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System is an 82.15 km (51.05 mi) long rapid rail corridor that will connect Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut. It is one of the three rapid rail corridors planned under Phase I of the RapidX project managed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). Designed to allow a maximum speed of 180 km/h (110 mph), the distance between Delhi and Meerut will be covered in less than 60 minutes. The project is being executed at a cost of ₹30,274 crore (US$3.8 billion). It will have 14 stations and two depots at Duhai and Modipuram.
Metrolite is a light rail (LRT) urban transit system being planned in India for cities with lower ridership projection and as a feeder system for the existing metro systems. It will cater to lower passenger capacity at a reduced cost than a metro line. It will have dedicated tracks, separated from the road.
