Civil Service Hospital is an autonomous government institution under Ministry of General Administration(MoGA) located in Minbhawan, Kathmandu in Bagmati Province of Nepal. The hospital building was built by the joint venture of People's Republic of China and Government of Nepal in 2008. [1] [2] [3]

History

The foundation stone of Civil service hospital was laid by the then Prime minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba and it was handed over as a 132 bedded fully equipped hospital in 2008. It was inaugurated by the then Prime minister of Nepal Madhav Kumar Nepal in 2009. In 2010, the hospital started its services including OPD, Emergency Department, Inpatient and Surgery Department. The present full-fledged tertiary care hospital facilities started at its permanent campus at Mawdiangdiang, Shillong in the year 2007. Further PG courses have been started in the following subjects - Anatomy, General Medicine, General Surgery and Radiodiagnosis and Imaging. The Institute also offers DM course in Cardiology. Besides, there is B. Sc Nursing and M. Sc Nursing courses being run by the Institute's College of Nursing.The College of Nursing started its courses from the year 2006.

Anjani Kumar Sharma was Nepal's first surgeon. Sharma was born on June 7, 1928, in the remote region of Bhaluwahi in Siraha District in the Terai region of Nepal. Growing up in rural Nepal, there was poor access to healthcare, and because of this, he lost his mother at age 8. Following her death, he was inspired to become a doctor. With the help of his father and uncle, he achieved his dreams. He completed his MBBS at Calcutta Medical College in 1955. He was awarded an MS in Surgery from Darbhanga Medical College in India. He also went on to complete his FRCS in the UK. He is credited with establishing the Surgery Department at Bir Hospital, Nepal's oldest hospital.

Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute(CNCI) is a cancer care hospital and research institute and one of the 27 regional cancer centres in India. It is located in Kolkata near Jatin Das Park metro station at Hazra More (crossing). It was formally inaugurated by Prof. Madam J.Curie on 2 January 1950, as Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital, named after Chittaranjan Das, who donated land and property for the cause. This campus (first campus) also serves as a cancer research centre.

Shree Birendra Hospital originally Birendra Sainik Hospital is an army hospital established in 1990 and run by Nepal Army. The hospital is located in Chhauni, Kathmandu. Initially, the hospital was open to army personnel, retired army personnel and their family only. From 2017, the hospital also started outpatient service for civilians. As of August 2023, the hospital has 635 beds and has a plan to upgrade to 900 beds to cater for civilians. In 2020, the hospital also started providing free hemodialysis service to the civilians.
