Leung Kwok-hung,also known by his nickname "Long Hair" (長毛),is a Hong Kong politician and social activist. He was a member of the Legislative Council,representing the New Territories East. A Trotskyist in his youth,he was a founding member of the Revolutionary Marxist League. He became a political icon with his long hair and Che Guevara T-shirt in the protests before he was elected to the Legislative Council in 2004. In 2006,he co-founded a social democratic party,the League of Social Democrats (LSD) of which he was the chairman from 2012 to 2016.
Kwok Ka-ki is a democratic Hong Kong former politician. He is a private urology doctor,having graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong. Kwok is a member of the Civic Party,having joined on 19 July 2010. On 11 November 2020,he was disqualified from the Legislative Council,along with three other lawmakers of the pan-democratic camp,by the central government in Beijing on request of the Hong Kong government. A mass resignation of pan-democrats the same day left the Legislative Council without a substantial opposition.
Gary Fan Kwok-wai is a Hong Kong politician. He was the member of Legislative Council from 2012 to 2016 and from 2018 to 2019 after winning the 2018 by-election for New Territories East. He is also a former member of the Sai Kung District Council for Wan Hang. Former leader of the reformist faction in the Democratic Party,he led the reformists splitting from the party to form the Neo Democrats over the controversial 2010 constitutional reform proposal,taking a moderate localist stance.

Jeremy Jansen Tam Man-ho is a Hong Kong politician,airline pilot,and former Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Civic Party's Kowloon East Branch. He was a former member of the Legislative Council representing Kowloon East,having been elected in the 2016 Hong Kong Legislative Council election. Tam resigned along with 14 other remaining pro-democracy legislators from the Legislative Council on 11 November 2020,after the central government had unseated four of pro-democracy legislators the same day.
HK First is a localist political party in Hong Kong. It had one representative in the Legislative Council of Hong Kong,Claudia Mo,a former pan-democratic Civic Party member. It was founded in 2013 by two pro-democracy legislators,Claudia Mo and Gary Fan,to "defend the city's culture from 'mainlandisation'".
In September 2017,tensions arose between different parties over the content of posters put up on Democracy wall in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. This has led to increased tensions in Hong Kong society,due to the interpretations of freedom of speech of certain content of the posters. This has also led to copycats incidents occurring in other universities in Hong Kong as well reigniting Hong Kong Independence debate within Hong Kong Kong society. The standoff,which has manifested in a series of protests and counterprotests on campuses,is reflective of the wider disconnect between mainlanders and Hongkongers,fanned by a host of reasons from politics and language barriers to state-fuelled propaganda and competition for scarce resources.
Tiffany Yuen Ka-wai is a Hong Kong activist and politician,who has been a member of the Southern District Council for Tin Wan since 2020. She was the vice chairperson of Demosistōbefore resigning from the party in 2018. For her participation in the 2020 Hong Kong pro-democracy primaries,she was arrested in January 2021 along with over 50 other pro-democrats on national security charges and remains in jail as of October 2021.

She played an instrumental role in the labour strike in February 2020 to demand full border closure in response to the COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong.
The 2020 Hong Kong Legislative Council election was originally scheduled on 6 September 2020 until it was postponed by the government. On 31 July 2020,Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced that she was invoking the Emergency Regulations Ordinance to postpone the election under the emergency powers granted to her by it,citing the recent resurgence of the COVID-19 cases,adding that the move was supported by Beijing.
The Hong Kong 47 are a group of 47 pro-democracy advocates in Hong Kong charged with conspiracy to commit subversion under the Hong Kong national security law.
Few protests took place in March 2021 and there was no large-scale demonstrations in threat of the national security law. The charge against 47 pro-democracy activists for subversion on participating in a primary election was widely condemned by international community.
The city held its first National Security Education Day after the national security law had come into force. Chief Executive Carrie Lam emphasized that the law had helped Hong Kong to emerge from the "dark violence" of the 2019–2020 Hong Kong protests. National Security Committee Adviser Luo Huining also gave a speech. Even very young children were photographed handling toy weapons,which drew criticism.
