Council of Ministers (Cyprus)

The Council of Ministers is the executive branch of the Cypriot government, consisting of ministers. The council is chaired by the President of Cyprus and the ministers head executive departments of the government. The President and his ministers administer the government and the various public services.

The Christodoulides government is the government of Cyprus, forming the Council of Ministers. Sworn in on 1 March 2023, it consists of members from various political parties and independent technocrats. [1] [2]

He also served as provisional minister of Labour in the period leading to Cyprus being proclaimed an independent state. Before entering the political stage he fought for EOKA. His political career evolved from a staunch supporter of Makarios to becoming one of the archbishop's principal political rivals. He was assassinated in 1970.

A former member of the Democratic Rally, he has been an independent since the party ejected him for entering the 2023 presidential race against their chosen candidate.

Presidential elections were held in Cyprus on 5 February 2023. No candidate received a majority of the vote in the first round, so a runoff was held on 12 February. Incumbent president Nicos Anastasiades of the Democratic Rally (DISY), who won the presidential elections in 2013 and 2018, was ineligible to run due to the two-term limit mandated by the Constitution of Cyprus.

The Battle of Omorphita was an armed engagement between Greek Cypriot and Turkish–Turkish Cypriot militias and Turkish military forces in December 1963 in the Cypriot town of Omorphita, part of the crisis of 1963.

Konstantinos Spyridakis was a Greek Cypriot politician, educator, scholar and writer, who served as the first minister of Education of the Republic of Cyprus (1965–1970). After studying history, philosophy, and philology in Athens and Berlin, he worked as a teacher, becoming headmaster of Pancyprian Gymnasium (1936–1960). His community and political roles included membership of the Ethnarchical Council and advisor to the Cyprus Ethnarchy Office (1948–1960), and president of the Greek Communal Chamber of Cyprus (1960–1965).

Theodoulos Kallinikos was an archon protopsaltes (cantor) of the Church of Cyprus and a musicologist of Cypriot folk music.
