Girinagar (formerly known as Writer's Colony) is an Indian residential area in South West Bengaluru, very close to Mysore Road. This medium-sized locality is surrounded by Nayandahalli in the west, Byatarayanapura and Deepanjali Nagar in the north, Srinagar in the east and Hosakerehalli in the south.

Etymology

Girinagar was named after the former President of India V. V. Giri and also because of the Hirannayya Gudda (Hill). Giri in Sanskrit means hill.

Administration

Girinagar lies in the Bengaluru South parliamentary constituency. The incumbent Member of Parliament of Bengaluru South is Shri. Tejasvi surya (BJP). [1] Most of Girinagar lies in the Basavanagudi assembly constituency. The incumbent Member of Legislative assembly is Shri. Ravi Subramanya (BJP), [2] who resides in Girinagar. However the part of Girinagar north of 50 Feet Road viz. Avalahalli, 3rd Phase, Muneshwara Block and Ganapathi Nagar sub localities lies in the Vijayanagar assembly constituency. [3] The current sitting Member of Legislative assembly is Shri. M. Krishnappa (INC). [4]

Girinagar is also a ward in the Bengaluru South zone of the BBMP (ward no. 162). It ranges from Nagendra Block in the east to Hosakerehalli Road in the west, from 50 Feet Road in the north to ORR in the south. [5] and spans 1.77 km2. [6] The ward has been reserved for women [5] and the current corporator is Smt. H.S. Lalitha (BJP). [5] However the northernmost part of Girinagar (north of 50 Feet road) lies in the Deepanjali Nagar ward (ward no. 158), also in the Bengaluru South Zone [7] and spans 2.09 km2. [8] This ward is also reserved for women and the current corporator is Smt. Malathi (BJP). [7]

Padmanabhanagar is a residential locality in South Bangalore, India, covering an area of 1.68 km2. It is one of the zones of BBMP. Padmanabhanagar has a very famous park called Lakshmikanta Park. This park houses Lakshmi Kantha temple. It was looked after by residents association, in 2018 the corporator allotted funds and developed it further. The park was eyed for its medicinal trees and was sanctioned to be cut down completely and set up a landscaped area but the senior citizens of the locality who nurtured the park protested and stopped it. It is surrounded by Kumaraswamy Layout, Gowdanapalya, Chennamanakere, Kathriguppe, Kadirenahalli, Uttarahalli and Chikkakalasandra.

Ramanjaneyanagar is a locality belonging to the assembly constituency of Bangalore South which is the biggest assembly constituency in Bangalore with 3,79,870 voters. This area is also referred to as Sriramanjaneyanagar.

Sahakara Nagar is a residential suburb near Bangalore, India. Sahakanagar is formed by the Ministry of Communication Employees housing society and has developed to this extent under the efforts of the Sahakaranagar Residents welfare association. Ever since the inclusion of 45 new wards to Bangalore city in 2008, Sahakara Nagar comes under the BBMP limits. The locality is accessible via NH 7 on the East. Sahakara Nagar was formed in the early 1980s as a co-operative society for Telecom and Post & Telegraph employees of the Government of India. It has over 8 well maintained parks and two Playgrounds maintained by BBMP. Owing to its proximity to Hebbal lake, Amrutahalli lake and GKVK forest land, it is often called the Prague of Bengaluru city.
