Hosur. — A large village in the Gauribidanur taluk, 6 miles south-west of the kasba. Population 2,574. A fair held on Saturday is attended by 500 people. Under the name of Hosavidu, the new camp or residence, it was for a time occupied by the Hoysala king Ballala III, who may have been its founder, and may have named it with reference to Halebidu, his old residence or capital of Dorasamudra, which had been destroyed by the Musalmans. As Hosapattana, it apparently formed in 1355 one of the boundary towns.
As of 2001 [update] India census, Hossur had a population of 6496 with 3366 males and 3130 females. [1]
Chikkaballapur is the district headquarters of the newly created Chikkaballapur district in the state of Karnataka, India. It is located within 3 km of Muddenahalli. A $400 million Pharmaceutical SEZ is coming up in Chikkaballapur on 325 acres (1.32 km2), the first of its kind in India. Furthermore, the noted Traveler Bunglow is being converted into a state-of-the-art bus terminus. A new district government headquarters and police headquarters is being constructed at a cost of $5 million. In addition, the state government is releasing over $10 million to develop the city and expand underground sanitary systems. It is a regional transport and educational hub, and is a major site for grape, grain, and silk cultivation. With recent development, it is widely believed that Chikkaballapur will become part of "Greater Bangalore."
