The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election, 2014 (Hindi:झारखण्ड विधानसभा चुनाव) was held in five phases between November 25, and December 20, counting of votes and results were announced on December 23, 2014. [1] [2] The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) won the elections defeating The Indian National Congress (INC) and its major allies Rashtriya Janata Dal, Janata Dal (United), and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). This was the first time, since Jharkhand was created, for a single-party majority in the state assembly, with BJP getting 42 out of 81, 1 more that required majority. This has provided for a stable government in the state for past 4 years.

Hindi An official language of India

Hindi, or Modern Standard Hindi is a standardised and Sanskritised register of the Hindustani language. Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, is one of the official languages of India, along with the English language. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages of the Republic of India. However, it is not the national language of India because no language was given such a status in the Indian constitution.

Rashtriya Janata Dal Political party of India

The Rashtriya Janata Dal is an Indian political party, based in the northern state of Bihar. The party was founded in 1997 by Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Janata Dal (United) political party of India, established 2003

Janata Dal (United) is a centre-left Indian political party with political presence mainly in Bihar and Jharkhand. The Janata Dal (United) was formed with the merger of the Sharad Yadav faction of the Janata Dal, the Lokshakti Party and the Samta Party on 30 October 2003. Janata Dal (United)'s party mentor and patron is the veteran socialist leader George Fernandes. JD(U) is currently a part of BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The term of the legislative assembly of Jharkhand ended on January 3, 2015. The Chief Election Commissioner announced five-phased assembly elections to be held in Jharkhand along with Jammu and Kashmir, beginning from November 25 and ending December 20, counting of votes and results will be announced on December 23, 2014. [1] [2] Voter-verified paper audit trail(VVPAT) along with EVMs were used in 7 assembly seats out of 81 in Jharkhand elections- Jamshedpur East, Jamshedpur West, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Kanke and Hatia. Jharkhand State in Eastern India

Jharkhand is a state in eastern India, carved out of the southern part of Bihar on 15 November 2000. The state shares its border with the states of Bihar to the north, Uttar Pradesh to the northwest, Chhattisgarh to the west, Odisha to the south and West Bengal to the east. It has an area of 79,710 km2 (30,778 sq mi). It is the 16th largest state by area, and the 14th largest by population. Hindi is official language of the state. The city of Ranchi is its capital and Dumka its sub capital. The state is known for its waterfalls, hills and holy places. Baidyanath Dham, Parasnath and Rajrappa are major religious places.

Voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) or verifiable paper record (VPR) is a method of providing feedback to voters using a ballotless voting system. A VVPAT is intended as an independent verification system for voting machines designed to allow voters to verify that their vote was cast correctly, to detect possible election fraud or malfunction, and to provide a means to audit the stored electronic results. It contains the name of the candidate and symbol of the party/individual candidate.The VVPAT must be destroyed by the voter before leaving the room.

Raghubar Das was sworn in as the 10th chief minister of Jharkhand state on 28 December 2014.

Raghubar Das is the Chief Minister of Jharkhand state of India. He was sworn in as the 6th chief minister of Jharkhand on 28 December 2014. He is an Indian politician and belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party. A former employee of Tata Steel, he served as the member of legislative assembly for five times, representing Jamshedpur East since 1995. He also served as the Deputy Chief Minister and the Urban Development Minister during the BJP-led government in the state. During the period of emergency, he was sent behind the bars.

Six Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) MLAs on 11 Feb 2015 joined the BJP, a day after petitioning the Speaker to allow them to sit alongside ruling BJP-led coalition members in the state Assembly.

Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) political party in India

The Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) is a state political party in the Indian state of Jharkhand which was founded by former Union Minister and Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi. The party's formation was announced by Marandi at Hazaribagh on 24 September, 2006. Marandi was earlier a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, but he quit in mid-2006 because he felt he was being sidelined in the party.

2002 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election

Elections for the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir were held in September -October 2002 in four phases. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed became Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir after the elections. In 2005 under a coalition agreement INC's Ghulam Nabi Azad became Chief Minister. He was the first Indian National Congress party Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. In reaction terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad had conducted a suicide car bomb attack in Srinagar killing six people just hours before Azad's swearing-in. Panthers Party formed part of the ruling coalition with Harsh Dev Singh becoming the party's first cabinet minister.

The Legislative Assembly election was held over five-phases in Bihar through October–November 2015 before the end of the tenure of the prior Legislative Assembly of Bihar on 29 November 2015.
