KZHT (97.1 FM) is a contemporary hit radio formatted radio station, broadcasting to the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. It is owned by iHeartMedia as one of six radio stations in the market. The station's studios are located in West Valley City, and its transmitter site is located southwest of the city on Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains.

Station history

Beautiful music (1961?)

The station signed on in 1961, as KLUB-FM, airing a music format partially simulcast with KLUB-AM. [3]

Adult contemporary (1998?-2000)

The station then became KISN "Kissin 97", airing an adult contemporary. [4] This format included a mix of soft rock, pop hits, and ballads from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s.

'80s hits (2000–2003)

On November 3, 2000, the station changed to an all-80s hits format. It retained the "Kissin 97" name and airstaff. This format focused exclusively on music from the 1980s, featuring a wide array of genres.

In 2001, KISN joined at least four other Clear Channel stations in the U.S. in airing "Martha Quinn's Rewind," a program hosted by former MTV VJ Martha Quinn. [5] [6]

Top 40 (2003–present)

On December 22, 2003, 97.1 became the new home of KZHT and its contemporary hit radio. This led to the station beginning to play the most popular and current songs across various genres, including pop, hip-hop, dance, and R&B. At this time, the station swapped frequencies from 94.9 to 97.1. 94.9 is now owned by Cumulus. [7]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">KISN (Vancouver, Washington)</span> Radio station in Vancouver, Washington (1959–1976)

KISN was an AM radio station licensed to Vancouver, Washington and broadcasting to Portland, Oregon. broadcasting on 910 kHz and licensed for 5,000 watts. The station began broadcasting in 1939 as KVAN, but after it changed formats to Top 40 and became KISN in 1959, KISN became not only the number one rated rock station in the market, but at times the most popular radio station in Portland. In 1976, the FCC revoked KISN's license and others owned by the Star Stations group due to a series of indiscretions involving connections to candidates for the United States Senate in Indiana and Oregon. The KISN call letters have been used several times for oldies radio stations in the Portland area, most recently by KISN-LP, a Low-power broadcasting station that has been on the air since 2014 with a format that recalls the original.
