Kankarbagh, or Kankarbagh Colony, is a neighborhood and residential area in Patna, Bihar, India. [1] It is one of the largest colonies in Asia and the second largest in terms of population. [2]
Established back in 1916, Kankarbagh is spread over an area of around 900 acres. It stretches roughly from Panch Shiv Mandir in the west to Kumhrar in the East. The word Kankarbagh means 'garden of kankar' (stone chips).
Kumhrar, or Kumrahar, is the remains of an ancient city of Pataliputra, which is located 5 km east of Patna Junction railway station on Kankarbagh Main Road. [3]
Archaeological remains from the Mauryan period (322–185 BCE) have been discovered here, including the ruins of a hypostyle 80-pillared hall. [4] [5] The excavation finds date back to 600 BCE [6] and marks the ancient capital of Ajatashatru, Chandragupta and Ashoka; collectively, the relics range from four continuous periods from 600 BCE to 600 CE. [6]
The Patliputra Sports Complex (formally known as Kankarbagh Sports Complex) is a sports stadium in Kankarbagh. The Patliputra Sporting Complex was also known as Rainbow Field before the construction of the sports complex.
The complex is fully equipped with facilities for both outdoor and indoor games. Football, hockey, kabaddi, table tennis, carrom, swimming, wrestling, and taekwondo are some of the games organised here.
Since the inception of the Pro Kabaddi League in 2014, the stadium has played host to the Home matches of Patna Pirates (winners of the 2016 Pro Kabaddi League season (January) and 2016 Pro Kabaddi League season (June)).
The 31st National Taekwondo Championship, the 75th Senior National Table Tennis Championship and multiple junior Basketball and Tennis competitions have been hosted by the stadium.

It was held at Patna from 1 to 4 March 2012 at the Patliputra Sports Complex, Kankarbagh. Hosts India won the World Cup defeating Iran in the finals.
The Patliputra Stadium at the Patliputra Sports Complex is a multi-purpose stadium in Kankarbagh, Patna, Bihar. The first Women World Cup Kabaddi Championship was held here in its inaugural year, in which 16 countries had participated. Patliputra Junction, Station code (PPTA), is a railway station in the Rukanpura area in the West End of Patna, Bihar. The station, which is governed by East Central Railway and managed by Danapur railway division, lies on the Patna–Sonepur–Hajipur section. Located 12 kilometres north-west of Patna Junction, it has primarily been developed to ease pressure on the city's other two railway stations, through which roughly 350 trains pass daily. It is located near Bailey Road, an important western thoroughfare in Patna. Patliputra junction has become the fourth terminal of the Danapur railway division after Patna Junction, Danapur station and Rajendranagar Terminal.

The Patliputra Inter-State Bus Terminal or Bairiya Bus Terminal is an Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Patna, Bihar, India. It is the first ISBT of Bihar and is situated on State Highway 1 (SH-1) between Raman Chak and Pahari village in Patna. The Patliputra ISBT was inaugurated on 18 September 2020.
