This is a list of Norwegian literature authors in the order of their year of birth. The century assignment is the period of their most significant works.
Norwegian literature is literature composed in Norway or by Norwegian people. The history of Norwegian literature starts with the pagan Eddaic poems and skaldic verse of the 9th and 10th centuries with poets such as Bragi Boddason and Eyvindr Skáldaspillir. The arrival of Christianity around the year 1000 brought Norway into contact with European medieval learning, hagiography and history writing. Merged with native oral tradition and Icelandic influence, this was to flower into an active period of literature production in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. Major works of that period include Historia Norwegie, Thidreks saga and Konungs skuggsjá.

The Brage Prize is a Norwegian literature prize that is awarded annually by the Norwegian Book Prize foundation. The prize recognizes recently published Norwegian literature.
Gyldendal's Endowment was a literature prize that was awarded in the period 1934–1995 by the Norwegian publisher Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. The prize was awarded to significant authors, regardless of which publisher the author was associated with.
The Norwegian Booksellers' Prize (Bokhandlerprisen) is a literature prize awarded annually by the Norwegian Booksellers Association after voting among all who work in Norwegian bookstores.
The Riksmål Society Literature Prize is awarded annually by the Riksmålsforbundet for the outstanding publication in riksmål. The prize was awarded until 2002 by the Oslo and Bærum Riksmål League, when it was taken over by the Riksmålsforbundet.

The Narvesen Prize was a Norwegian prize for those who excelled in journalism. It was established in 1954 by the company Narvesen, but the Norwegian Press Association was behind the selection of winners. It was discontinued in 1990.
The Prince Eugen Medal is a medal conferred by the King of Sweden for "outstanding artistic achievement".

Government scholar is a position awarded by the Parliament of Norway upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Research and funded directly over the State budget of Norway. The position can be "for life" or for a limited period of time, although modern appointments usually are "for life." The scholarships are awarded to a select number of persons whose work is deemed important for the society, and who may engage in research, culture or other societal areas. As of 2011, there were 30 government scholars in Norway; 23 men and 7 women. All appointees were included in the Norwegian State Calendar until it ceased publication in 2012.

The Fridtjof Nansen Prize for Outstanding Research is a Norwegian research award. It is conferred by the Nansen Trust and its associated trusts, and it was established in 1896 after the return of the Fram Expedition.
