Sir Philip Albert Martin McBride, was an Australian politician. He was a United Australia Party member of the Australian House of Representatives for Grey from 1931 to 1937 and the Australian Senate from 1937 to 1944, and a Liberal Party of Australia member of the House of Representatives for Wakefield from 1946 to 1958. He served as a minister in both of Robert Menzies' governments, as Minister for the Army and Minister for Repatriation (1940), Minister for Supply and Development and Minister for Munitions (1940–1941), Minister for the Interior (1949–1950), and Minister for Defence (1950–1958).

Richard Valentine Keane was an Australian politician and trade unionist. He was a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and served as Minister for Trade and Customs from 1941 until his death in 1946. He was a member of both the House of Representatives (1929–1931) and the Senate (1938–1946). Prior to entering politics he worked as a clerk with the Victorian Railways and served as national secretary of the Australian Railways Union (1925–1929).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Edward Russell (Australian politician)</span> Australian politician

Edward John Russell was an Australian politician. He served as a senator for Victoria from 1907 until his death in 1925. He began his career in the Australian Labor Party (ALP), but was expelled during the 1916 split and became a Nationalist. He served as Vice-President of the Executive Council from 1918 to 1921 and was an assistant minister in the governments of Andrew Fisher and Billy Hughes. Following a nervous breakdown, his final years in the Senate were spent in mental institutions.

Robert Reid was a Scottish-born Australian politician. Born in Leven, Fife, he migrated to Australia, arriving in Hobson's Bay on the Ralph Waller from Liverpool on 7 April 1855, the ship having struck an iceberg near the Island of Desolation. He worked in the retail trade before becoming a businessman.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">James Guthrie (Australian politician)</span> Australian politician

James Francis Guthrie, was an Australian politician. Born at Rich Avon Station in Victoria, he was educated at Geelong College before becoming a grazier, sheep breeder and woolbroker. In 1919, he was elected to the Australian Senate as a Nationalist Senator for Victoria. In 1931, together with the rest of his party, he joined the United Australia Party. He held the seat until his defeat in 1937, taking effect in 1938.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">David Charleston</span> Australian politician

David Morley Charleston was a Cornish-born Australian politician. Born in St Erth, Cornwall, he received only a primary education before becoming an apprentice engineer at Harvey & Co ironworks, and later an engineering unionist in the Amalgamated Society of Engineers in London. In 1874 he moved to San Francisco and worked as a marine engineer for Pacific Mail Steamship Company. Migrating to South Australia in 1884, he continued his engineering work initially on the Hackney Bridge for the Road Board then with the Adelaide Steamship Company, but resigned in 1887 after labour troubles. He subsequently became President of the United Trades and Labour Council of South Australia for a year from February 1889.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Robert Guthrie (politician)</span> Australian politician

Robert Storrie Guthrie was a Scottish-born Australian politician. He was educated at Glasgow before becoming a seaman and migrating to Australia in 1887. He was South Australian Secretary and Federal President of the Seamen's Union before entering the South Australian Legislative Council as a Labor member in 1891. In 1903, he left the Council to contest the Australian Senate, in which he was successful. Originally an Australian Labor Party Senator, he left the party in the wake of the 1916 split over conscription, joining the Nationalist Party.
