The Shanghai Municipal People's Government is the local administrative agency of Shanghai. [1] It is officially elected by the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress and is formally responsible to the SMPC and its Standing Committee. [1] The municipal government is headed by a mayor, currently Gong Zheng. [2] Under the country's Leninist system, the mayor is subordinate to the secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. [3]

The January Storm, formally known as the January Revolution, was a coup d'état in Shanghai that occurred during the Cultural Revolution in between 5 January to 23 February 1967. The coup, precipitated by the Sixteen Articles and unexpected local resistance towards Maoism in Shanghai, was launched by Maoist rebel factions towards the city's party leadership under the directives of the Cultural Revolution Group (CRG) through Maoist leaders such as Zhang Chunqiao, Wang Hongwen and Yao Wenyuan, with backing from Mao Zedong, Kang Sheng, and Jiang Qing. The coup culminated in the overthrow of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of Chen Pixian and Cao Diqiu, and led to the creation of the Shanghai People's Commune on 5 February 1967.

Changsha Municipal Government today is deeply influenced by its long past. Gong Jianhua is a former Chinese politician who spent his entire career in his home-province Jiangxi. He surrendered himself to and is cooperating with the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and National Supervisory Commission for investigation of "suspected violations of disciplines and laws" on 29 November 2021. Previously he served as vice chairman of the Standing Committee of Jiangxi Provincial People's Congress. Gong is the fourth vice-provincial level official in Jiangxi to be targeted by China's top anticorruption watchdog since the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, behind Li Yihuang, Shi Wenqing and Xiao Yi.

Chen Rugui is a Chinese politician who is the current vice chairman of Guangdong People's Congress. Previously he served as mayor of Shenzhen. He was a representative of the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party and is a delegate to the 13th National People's Congress. He was investigated by China's top anti-graft agency in June 2022.

The 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party , officially the Central Committee of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, comprises 205 members and 171 alternates. It was elected at the 20th National Congress on 22 October 2022, and its term lasts until the election of the 21st Central Committee at the 21st National Congress, which is planned for 2027. The Central Committee, as the Party's highest decision-making body in the given period, is not a permanent body and convenes for an unspecified number of times.
