T Senka Ao (born 6 June 1945) is a journalist from the Indian state of Nagaland. Senka Ao is best known for his work as the Editor-in-Chief of the "Ao Milen", the first newspaper in Nagaland established in 1933 and the first newspaper ever to be published in the local Ao language. [1] During the period of his edittorship, Senka Ao created the "Alokba" character famous for his witty commentary on social and current issues. Senka Ao has contributed several articles to various publications and has authored nine books in the Ao language. Two of his books Kongro Lijen (The Abode of the Maidens) and Kishi Tezulen (Off the Doorway) are in the process of translation into English. [2] Senka Ao's books have been included in the syllabus of the Ao language in ICSE and ISC Board New Delhi, and up to class 10 under Nagaland Board of School Education. He is an examiner of Arrangtet Examination which is the highest Ao language degree.

Senka Ao has played key roles in the efforts to bring peace and harmony between warring groups during many crises and feuds. He has served as a member of the Peace Committee constituted to solve the issues involving Aos and Sumis in 1981 and also as a member of Peace Committee 1985 during the confrontation between Assam and Nagaland at Merapani. He was actively involved in the formation of the Joint People Forum with representatives from both Nagaland and Assam in collaboration with the District Administration for the resolution of the contentious issues between Nagaland and Assam. In recognition of his many social activities, he was elected as a member of the Mokokchung Town Committee and as a member of the All India Radio Campaign Committee in Mokokchung in 1972.

Early life

Senka Ao was born in Mokokchung Town in Nagaland on June 6, 1945. He completed matriculation from Government High School, Mokokchung and graduated in 1969 from St Anthony's College, Shillong, then under Gauhati University. He had been a very active participant in public life since his student's days holding several positions in various students' organisations. He was the Joint Secretary in the Voluntary Adult Education Campaign in Mokokchung District (1975-1979) and was the founder of the Model Night School at Mokokchung in 1972.

L Kijungluba was the first Baptist missionary from Nagaland. He was born in Lirmen village, Mokokchung district, Nagaland, India.

Mayangnokcha Ao (1901–1988) was an Indian educationist and writer of Naga ethnicity from Nagaland and the founder, vice president of the Naga National Council.

Tokheho Sema (1932–2017) was an Indian politician from the state of Nagaland. He served as a member of the 'Nagaland Interim Body' which oversaw the formation of the state in 1963. In 2016, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, for his contribution to public affairs.

He had had no formal school/college education; instead, he had his early education in a madrassa established by his father at his home in 1972. Harmohinder Singh Bedi is a Hindi author, an academician and an academic administrator from the Indian State of Punjab. Since 4 July 2018, he has been serving as the Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh. He is also a Member of the Indian Council of Social Science Research and a Member of the National Monitoring Committee on Minority Education, Govt of India. Before joining Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Harmohinder Singh Bedi had served as Professor Emeritus, Punjabi University, Patiala and as Professor and Head of Department of Hindi, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. At Guru Nanak Dev University he had also served as Dean and Director of Chairs of Bhagat Kabir, Satguru Ram Singh and Swami Vivekanand.

Jagjit Singh Dardi is a journalist and an educationist from the Indian State of Punjab. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Punjabi language daily newspaper Chardikala, a newspaper that was started in 1977. In 1970 Dardi started a fortnightly Charhdikala Marg, whose Founder Editor was his father G Harnam Singh. This fortnightly paper was converted into a daily newspaper in 1977. He is the Chairman of the Punjabi news channel Chardilkala Time TV. He is also the Chairman of Sri Guru Harkrishan Group of Institutes which is a chain of institutes of higher education. He was awarded Padma Shri in the year 2022 for his services in national integration, communal harmony, contributions in the field of media, education and promotion of Punjabi language, culture and heritage.

Arjun Singh Dhurve is a folk dancer and a retired teacher from the Dindori district of the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh. He is famous for popularising Baiga folk songs and dance. Baiga Pardhauni dance is the main dance of the Baiga tribe. In this form of dance, the performers wear the masks of peacocks, elephants, horses, etc.

Dhaneswar Engti is a poet-author from the Indian State of Assam promoting the use of the endangered Karbi language spoken by the Karbi people of Northeastern India. Engti has authored 19 books and written around 100 songs in the Karbi language. He has also served as the Joint Secretary of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. Avadh Kishore Jadia is a poet and author in the Bundeli language and the Braj language from the Chhatarpur district in the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh. He was also an Ayurveda medical practitioner in the Madhya Pradesh Govt Service. In the year 2022, Govt of India honored him by conferring the Padma Shri award for his contributions as an author in the Bundeli and Braj languages.

Rutger Kortenhorst is a teacher of Sanskrit in John Scottus Senior School in Dublin, Ireland. John Scottus School is a private school which has been teaching Sanskrit as a compulsory subject since its inception in 1986. In the year 2022, Govt of India honored him with the Padma Shri award for his dedicated work to propagate Sanskrit language in Ireland.

V L Nghaka is an academician from the Indian State of Mizoram known for his efforts for the propagation and development of the Hindi language in Mizoram. He authored the first Hind-Mizo dictionary and got it published in the year 1965. In the year 2022, Govt of India honoured V L Nghaka by conferring the Padma Shri award for his contributions to literature and education. As per his citation for Padma Shri award, "He built a cultural bridge between Hindi and Mizo language by drafting a Hindi-Mizo dictionary. As an interpreter, he was instrumental in bringing the government and Mizo people closer.”
