Nirupam Bajpai, a US-based Indian educationist and economist, is the Senior Research Scholar at the Earth Institute of the Columbia University and the Senior Development Advisor and Director of its South Asia Program. [1] [2] He is the founding director of the Columbia Global Centers South Asia, an office he held between July 2010 and August 2014, [3] and is the author of a number of publications, [4] [5] [6] including India in the Era of Economic Reforms. [7]
Bajpai, after graduating from Lucknow and securing a PhD in economics in 1988, moved to US in 1992 where he worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining Harvard Institute for International Development of Harvard University in 1995. [8] He worked at Harvard University till 2002 during which time he also worked at the Kennedy School of Government of the University and led the Harvard India Program. [3] In 2002, he joined Columbia University and is associated with the institution since then, working in various capacities. He has been a part of the team under Jeffrey Sachs who served three successive Indian governments from 2002, two of them led by Manmohan Singh and one by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as advisors on rural health and education services. [9] The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to society. [10]

Ashok Gulati is an Indian agricultural economist and a former chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), the advisory body of the Government of India on food supplies and pricing policies. Gulati was instrumental in the hiking the minimum support price of several food grains. Pratury Trirumala Rao was an Indian pediatrician and a writer of medical and non-fiction literature. He was a professor of pediatrics at the Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad. He was the author of two books on pediatric medicine in English, The insulin requirements of children with diabetes mellitus maintained in good control and Pediatric Problems in Developing Countries), two books in Telugu Gāndhījītō paricayaṃ and Gadacina Rojulu) and two biographical accounts and. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1988, for his contributions to medical science. He died in 1997, survived by his daughter, Lakshmi Pratury, a US-based social worker. A yoga institute in Hyderabad, Padma Bushan DRP Tirumala Rao Institute of Yoga is named after him.
