Tenmile River station (formerly State School station) is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Amenia, New York.

The station is located on Sinpatch Road (Dutchess CR 5), next to the crossing of the creek, a short distance east of NY 22/343. Tenmile River is named for the waterway of the same name adjacent to the station as well as north of the grade crossing with Sinpatch Road, and is in nearly the same spot as the State School station (named for a nearby institution for the developmentally disabled, now Taconic Developmental Center) which was closed with Penn Central's abandonment of passenger service north of Dover Plains in 1972.

History

The station was re-opened with the Wassaic train station on July 9, 2000.^[2] Passenger service was initially abandoned north of Dover Plains by Penn Central in 1972, though the line remained in use for freight. Soft coal was a common commodity to customers near this station. ^{[ citation needed ]}

Station layout

The station has one two-car-long high-level side platform to the east of the track.^[3]^: 16 Unusually, the MTA has placed identifying signage on concrete pilings opposite the platform to complement the signs on the platform itself.^[4]

The Harlem Line is an 82-mile (132 km) commuter rail line owned and operated by the Metro-North Railroad in the U.S. state of New York. It runs north from New York City to Wassaic, in eastern Dutchess County. The lower 53 miles (85 km) from Grand Central Terminal to Southeast, in Putnam County, is electrified with a third rail and has at least two tracks. The section north of Southeast is a non-electrified single-track line served by diesel locomotives. The diesel trains usually run as a shuttle on the northern end of the line, except for rush-hour express trains in the peak direction and one train in each direction on weekends.

The Hudson Line is a commuter rail line owned and operated by the Metro-North Railroad in the U.S. state of New York. It runs north from New York City along the east shore of the Hudson River, terminating at Poughkeepsie. The line was originally the Hudson River Railroad, and eventually became the Hudson Division of the New York Central Railroad. It runs along what was the far southern leg of the Central's famed "Water Level Route" to Chicago.

Just north of the station is Woodlawn Junction, where the New Haven Line splits from the Harlem Line to join the Northeast Corridor.
