Nanuet station is a train station in Nanuet, New York, serving commuter trains on the Pascack Valley Line. Its official address is 1 Prospect Street, but in reality, it is located on Orchard Street West, diagonally off the southwest corner of Prospect Street and Middletown Road.
The station originated as a lumberyard known as Red Tavern operated by David Demarest. In 1846, the station was upgraded and renamed Clarkstown. The station was renamed in 1856 to Nanuet, four years after ticketed service began. The station depot built by the Erie Railroad for its New Jersey and New York Railroad and its main line (later Piermont Branch), burned on March 14, 1991. [7]
The station at Nanuet began as a location for the pickup of ties for the New York and Erie Railroad in 1839. Known as Red Tavern, the location was run by David Demarest. At the location would board thirty-five men to help move the ties up the line.
By 1849, Demarest was named the station agent at Red Tavern and the station was renamed as Clarkstown. Demarest also used this occasion to construct two steam locomotives. The depot constructed at Clarkstown was part of Demarest's house, constructed in 1849. No tickets were sold at Clarkstown until 1852, and then the details were written in ink by Demarest himself. In 1856, the station was renamed Nanuet after a local Native American chief. Demarest remained in charge of the Nanuet station until his death in 1881, at which point his son, Joseph, took over as station agent. [5]
The station has one track and one low-level side platform.
There are three parking lots available at Nanuet. Free permit parking is available for residents of the Town of Clarkstown at the station's closest parking lot. Permits are issues by the Town Clerk of the Town of Clarkstown. The lot accommodates 339 vehicles. Paid parking (either daily, or by permit) is available at the Metro-North parking facility, which is operated by LAZ Parking and accommodates 226 vehicles. The lot is located behind the Nanuet post office. A third parking facility operated by the town can accommodate 229 vehicles. The lot located west of the station and does not require payment or resident permit.
In April 2022, a new train shelter was installed with a bench named after transportation advocate Orrin Getz. The new shelter contains Help Points, USB charging and LED lights. [8]
The Pascack Valley Line is a commuter rail line operated by the Hoboken Division of New Jersey Transit, in the U.S. states of New Jersey and New York. The line runs north from Hoboken Terminal, through Hudson and Bergen counties in New Jersey, and into Rockland County, New York, terminating at Spring Valley. Service within New York is operated under contract with Metro-North Railroad. The line is named for the Pascack Valley region that it passes through in northern Bergen County. The line parallels the Pascack Brook for some distance. The line is colored purple on system maps, and its symbol is a pine tree.
The Port Jervis Line is a predominantly single-track commuter rail line running between Suffern and Port Jervis, in the U.S. state of New York. At Suffern, the line continues south into New Jersey on NJ Transit's Main Line. The line is operated by NJ Transit Rail Operations under a contract with Metro-North Railroad (MNRR).
New Bridge Landing, signed as New Bridge Landing at River Edge, is an active commuter railroad station in the borough of River Edge, Bergen County, New Jersey. Located at the junction of Kinderkamack Road and Grand Avenue and next to Route 4, the station is serviced by Pascack Valley Line trains running between Hoboken Terminal in Hoboken and Spring Valley station in the eponymous village in Rockland County, New York. The next station to the north is the eponymous River Edge and the next station to the south is Anderson Street in Hackensack. The station contains a single low-level side platform on the southbound side of the track, resulting in the station not being accessible for handicapped persons per the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Teterboro is a commuter railroad station for NJ Transit in the borough of Hasbrouck Heights, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The station is located on the Pascack Valley Line near U.S. Route 46 (US 46) and Teterboro Airport between Wood-Ridge and Essex Street. Teterboro station consists of one low-level platform with a shelter accessible at the Catherine Street and US 46 ramps.
Woodcliff Lake is an active commuter railroad station in the borough of Woodcliff Lake, Bergen County, New Jersey. Located at the junction of Woodcliff Avenue and Broadway on the edge of the Woodcliff Lake Reservoir, the station is served by trains of New Jersey Transit's Pascack Valley Line. The station, which contains a single track and low-level side platform, is not accessible per handicapped persons under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. As of November 8, 2020, Woodcliff Lake is serviced seven days a week by New Jersey Transit trains, having previously only been a single train on weekends and holidays up to that point.
Park Ridge is an active commuter railroad station in the borough of Park Ridge, Bergen County, New Jersey. Located at the intersection of Park and Hawthorne Avenues, the station services trains on the Pascack Valley Line, which runs from Hoboken Terminal to Spring Valley station in New York. The station contains a single low-level side platform split by Park Avenue and a wooden station depot, built by the Hackensack and New York Extension Railroad. As a result, Park Ridge station is not handicap accessible under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Montvale is an active commuter railroad station in the borough of Montvale, Bergen County, New Jersey. Located in the middle of an active road junction of East Grand Avenue and Kinderkamack Road, the station serves trains on New Jersey Transit's Pascack Valley Line, serving as the first/last stop in New Jersey. The station consists of one low-level side platform with a mini-high-level platform to service handicapped customers under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Upper Montclair is a New Jersey Transit station in Upper Montclair, New Jersey, a census-designated place of Montclair, New Jersey. The station is part of the Montclair-Boonton Line. The station is located between two grade level crossings on Bellevue Avenue and Lorraine Avenue, and between North Mountain Avenue and Upper Montclair Plaza parallel to the railroad, and is within steps of the Upper Montclair Business District. The station is 13.7 miles (22.0 km) on the Boonton Line. Closing the grade crossing of Lorraine Avenue is being considered for safety reasons.
Mountain View, signed on the platform as Mountain View–Wayne, is a station on the Montclair-Boonton Line of NJ Transit in Wayne, New Jersey. Prior to the Montclair Connection in 2002, the station was served by the Boonton Line. The station is located on Erie Avenue, just off of US 202 and Route 23 in Downtown Wayne. Since January 2008, Mountain View station is the second of two stations in Wayne, the other being the Wayne Route 23 Transit Center, a station off the Westbelt interchange.

The Port Jervis station is a disused train station at the corner of Jersey Avenue and Fowler Street in Port Jervis, New York. It was built in 1892 as a passenger station for the Erie Railroad by Grattan & Jennings in the Queen Anne style. For years it was the busiest passenger station on the railroad's Delaware Branch because Port Jervis is along the Delaware River near the tripoint of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The long-distance passenger trains Erie Limited and the Lake Cities between Chicago and Hoboken served this station.
Hawthorne is an active commuter railroad station operated by New Jersey Transit in the borough of Hawthorne, Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. It is the northernmost station in Passaic County along New Jersey Transit's Main Line. Trains coming through Hawthorne service Waldwick, Suffern and Port Jervis to the north and Hoboken Terminal to the south, where connections are available to New York City via Port Authority Trans-Hudson and ferries. The station, accessible only by Washington Place in Hawthorne, contains only two low-level platforms connected by a grade crossing. As a result, the station is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Allendale is a NJ Transit rail station served by its Main and Bergen County lines as well as Port Jervis Line trains. The station is located at the railroad next to Allendale, Park and Myrtle avenues in Downtown Allendale. The station consists of two low-level platforms serving trains heading between Hoboken Terminal and Suffern. Some westbound trains headed for Port Jervis also stop at Allendale. The station has two ticket vending machines along the inbound platform with three parking lots for commuters. The railroad depot, constructed in 1870, is a combined passenger and freight depot, with a waiting area for passengers at the south end of the building while the northern end is unused.

Prospect Street was a former commuter railroad station in the city of Passaic, Passaic County, New Jersey. One of four stations for the Erie Railroad in Passaic, Prospect Street had a single station depot with two platforms. The next station going north towards Dearborn Station in Chicago, Illinois was the downtown Passaic station while the next station south toward Pavonia Terminal in Jersey City was Passaic Park. The station opened on June 21, 1880 as Passaic Centre station, located at a former site of the downtown Passaic station, back when the latter was known as Huyler's. The name was changed to Prospect Street around 1882. After multiple attempts to eliminate the station along with another at Harrison Street, the railroad succeeded in 1953.
