The 2004–05 UEFA Champions League was the 50th season of UEFA's premier European club football tournament, and the 13th since it was rebranded as the UEFA Champions League in 1992. The competition was won by Liverpool, who beat Milan on penalties in the final, having come back from 3–0 down at half-time. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was named as UEFA's Footballer of the Year for his key role in the final and throughout the Champions League season. The final, played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, is often regarded as one of the best in the history of the tournament.

The New Zealand National League is the name given to the current New Zealand top football competition. Originally set up as the New Zealand National Soccer League there has been many versions of the competition as well as many different names. The most common format saw club teams play each other, at least two times, on a home and away basis. At the completion of those games, the best-performing team was declared as the New Zealand champion. The latest version has the clubs play in their regional leagues with the top teams qualifying for the Championship phase to then play each other for the champion.

The 2004–05 UEFA Cup was the 34th edition of the UEFA Cup. The format of the competition had changed from previous seasons, replacing that from the previous one after the abolition of the Cup Winners' Cup in 1999; an extra qualifying round was introduced, as was a group phase after the first round. A total of 134 teams competed, split into 9 groups, in the Japanese Regional Leagues, the fifth tier of the Japanese association football league system, in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, all matches in all regions were changed from double round-robin into single round-robin, except Chūgoku and Tōkai.

The Japanese Regional Leagues, the fifth tier of the Japanese association football league system, played a regular season in 2021.

The 2022 Japanese Regional Leagues was the 57th edition of the Japanese Regional Leagues, the fifth tier of the Japanese football league system. As usual, this edition of the Regional Leagues was divided with 84 teams distributed in nine regional leagues. The winners of the first division of each Regional League along with other three between the nine Regional Leagues runners-up, qualified for the 2022 Japanese Regional Football Champions League. It served as a single-elimination tournament, in which the winner and the runner-up of the competition can also qualify either directly for the Japan Football League (JFL), or by a play-off match with one of the last-placed teams at the JFL table, with the confirmation of how must the winner get promoted to the JFL being made by the league board.
