A special election was held in the U.S. state of Maine to elect a new member for District 24 in the Maine House of Representatives, representing the town of Veazie and parts of Bangor, Brewer, and Orono. [1] The election filled a vacancy caused by the resignation of Democratic representative Joe Perry on December 4, 2024 after being appointed Treasurer of Maine. Longtime former Democratic state legislator Sean Faircloth won the special election. [2]
District 24 has been represented by Democrat Joe Perry since a special election in 2019, in what was then the 124th district until the 2020 redistricting cycle. In the last election in District 24, Joe Perry won re-election with 64.7 percent of the vote against a Republican opponent. [3] Perry declined to retake his seat following this election, however, as he was unanimously elected Maine State Treasurer by the legislature. [4]
