Baraga State Park is a public recreation area covering 56 acres (23 ha) on the shore of Lake Superior's Keweenaw Bay in Baraga County, Michigan. The state park sits along Route 41 on the south side of the village of Baraga. The park, village, and county bear the name of Bishop Frederic Baraga. [3]

Lake Superior largest of the Great Lakes of North America

Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes of North America, is also the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area, and the third largest freshwater lake by volume. The lake is shared by the Canadian province of Ontario to the north, the U.S. state of Minnesota to the west, and Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to the south. The farthest north and west of the Great Lakes chain, Superior has the highest elevation of all five great lakes and drains into the St. Mary's River.

Keweenaw Bay Bay of Lake Superior

Keweenaw Bay is an arm of Lake Superior in North America. It is located adjacent to the Upper Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan, to the southeast of the Keweenaw Peninsula. It is also the name of a small community near the bay.

Baraga County, Michigan County in the United States

Baraga County is a county in the Upper Peninsula in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 8,860. The county seat is L'Anse. The county is named after Bishop Frederic Baraga, a Catholic missionary who ministered to indigenous peoples of the area during the period when Michigan was obtaining statehood.

Frederic Baraga Catholic missionary and bishop

Irenaeus Frederic Baraga was a Slovenian Roman Catholic missionary to the United States and a grammarian of Native American languages. He became the first bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Marquette, Michigan, originally sited at Sault Sainte Marie, which he led for 15 years.

Hoffmaster State Park

P.J. Hoffmaster State Park is a public recreation area on the shores of Lake Michigan located five miles north of Grand Haven at the southwest corner of Norton Shores, in Muskegon County, and the northwest corner of Spring Lake Township, in Ottawa County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is operated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The state park includes 1,200 acres (490 ha) of land including 3 miles (5 km) of sand beach on the lake. The park is named after P.J. Hoffmaster, sometimes considered the founder of the Michigan state parks system, who served as the Superintendent of State Parks and Director of the Department of Conservation. The park's nature center is named for Emma Genevieve Gillette, who scouted locations for new state parks under Hoffmaster.

Muskegon State Park

Muskegon State Park is a public recreation area located four miles (6.4 km) west of North Muskegon in Muskegon County, Michigan. The park's 1,233 acres (499 ha) encompass two miles of sand beach on Lake Michigan and one mile of beach on Muskegon Lake.

Duck Lake State Park

Duck Lake State Park is a public recreation area covering 728 acres (295 ha) along Lake Michigan five miles (8.0 km) southwest of Whitehall in Muskegon County, Michigan. The state park, which runs along the north side of Duck Lake to Lake Michigan, features a large sand dune. The park's Scenic Drive is part of the Shoreline Trail route in Muskegon County.

Algonac State Park

Algonac State Park is a public recreation area covering 1,450 acres (590 ha) along the St. Clair River, two miles north of the city of Algonac in St. Clair County, Michigan. The state park's half mile of river frontage offers a view of passing international freighters.

Brimley State Park

Brimley State Park is a public recreation area covering 151 acres (61 ha) on the shore of Whitefish Bay at the far eastern end of Lake Superior in the state of Michigan. It is located on the northeast side of the Village of Brimley, eleven miles southwest of Sault Ste. Marie. The state park was established in 1923 when the village gave the park's first 38 acres (15 ha) to the state for park purposes. The park offers facilities for camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, and boating.

Craig Lake State Park

Craig Lake State Park is a remote public recreation area covering 8,459 acres (3,423 ha) in Baraga County on the Upper Peninsula of the state of Michigan. The state park has several lakes that are accessible only by foot or paddling.

Dodge No. 4 State Park

Dodge No. 4 State Park is a public recreation area covering 139 acres (56 ha) on the north shore of Cass Lake in Oakland County, northern Metro Detroit, Michigan. The state park occupies a mile of shoreline on the 1,280-acre (520 ha) lake.

Lakeport State Park

Lakeport State Park is a public recreation area on the shore of Lake Huron in St. Clair County, Michigan. The state park consists of two units on either side of the Village of Lakeport. Two campgrounds, beach and camp store are on the north side of the village. A picnic area and beach are on the south side of the village.

Charles Mears State Park is a public recreation area covering 50 acres (20 ha) in the village of Pentwater, Oceana County, Michigan. The state park sits on Lake Michigan, directly north of a channel that leads into Pentwater Lake. The park land, which was once owned by lumber baron Charles Mears, was donated to the state by his daughter Carrie Mears in 1923. The park offers fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking, and a one-mile hiking trail that ascends the Old Baldy sand dune.

Negwegon State Park

Negwegon State Park is an undeveloped public recreation area in Alpena County and Alcona County, Michigan, lying 5 miles (8.0 km) southeast of the unincorporated community of Ossineke. The state park's 3,738 acres (1,513 ha) include low land areas with small ridges, mature pine forest, pockets of open meadows, and a long sand beach on Lake Huron.

Albert E. Sleeper State Park

Pinckney State Recreation Area

Pinckney State Recreation Area is a Michigan state recreation area in Dexter, Sylvan and Lyndon Townships, Washtenaw County and Putnam and Unadilla Townships, Livingston County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The park is 11,000 acres (4,500 ha) and sits at an elevation of 922 feet (281 m). The park is connected to the nearby Waterloo State Recreation Area by the 35-mile (56 km) Waterloo–Pinckney Trail. Pinckney State Recreation Area is open for year-round recreation including hiking, fishing, swimming, hunting and a variety of winter sports.

Watkins Lake State Park and County Preserve Michigan state park

Watkins Lake State Park and County Preserve is a combination public recreation area and nature preserve located five miles west of Manchester in Jackson and Washtenaw counties, Michigan. The area occupies a total of 1,122 acres (454 ha), with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources owning 717 acres (290 ha) in Norvell Township, Jackson County, and Washtenaw County owning 405 acres (164 ha) in Manchester Township. Dedicated in 2017, it is under the joint management of the Michigan DNR and the Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission. A five-mile former rail corridor runs through the park and into grasslands in the eastern portion of the preserve.
