Cogie Hill railway station, also known as Cogie Hill Halt railway station and Cogie Hill Crossing railway station served the village of Winmarleigh, Lancashire, England, from 1870 to 1930 on the Garstang and Knot-End Railway.

History

The station opened on 5 December 1870 by the Garstang and Knot-End Railway. It was situated on the west side of Island Lane. Like Garstang Town and Cockerham Cross Halt, The station closed to passengers on 9 March 1872 due to a faulty locomotive. Services resumed on 17 May 1875 when a new engine was purchased. Moss Litter works opened to the north in 1889 and it was given its own private siding. In the late 1920s, the bus service was introduced and it deemed the passenger services uneconomic so it closed on 31 March 1930. [1] [2]

The Garstang and Knot-End Railway [sic] was a railway line, between Garstang and Pilling, across the Fylde of Lancashire, England. It was built by local agricultural interests to develop unproductive land. It had been intended to continue to Knott End but ran out of money. It eventually opened in 1870. In 1898 the Knott End Railway (KER) was authorised to continue to Knott End; it opened in 1908. The two companies were associated and the KER acquired the earlier company. The KER was still desperately short of money, and local people who were owed money bought rolling stock to keep the company going.

Winmarleigh is a village and civil parish of the Borough of Wyre in Lancashire, England. The population taken at the 2011 census was 273. The village, which is north-west of Garstang, has an agricultural college, and the Duchy of Lancaster has an estate here. This includes the local pub, the Patten Arms. It is home to the great manor of Winmarleigh Hall. Constructed to the order of the Duchy of Lancaster, it was given to the first Lord Winmarleigh. Since then the house has been donated to NST Travel Group, who have turned the grounds into an outdoor education programme for schools across the country.
