Liburnicon

Liburnicon is a festival for fans of science fiction, fantasy, advanced science, history and mythology, organised by the association "Kulturni front". Liburnicon is held in Opatija, a seaside town situated under the Učka mountain on the shore of northern Adriatic.

The first Liburnicon was held in 2006, under the name Abbacon. It was a gathering of several dozen science fiction and fantasy fans from Opatija and the surrounding region. Initially, Liburnicon was conceived as a small summer convention in the Liburnia region, and over time it developed into a festival that also offers musical, artistic, and excursion content.

The Locus Awards are an annual set of literary awards voted on by readers of the science fiction and fantasy magazine Locus, a monthly magazine based in Oakland, California. The awards are presented at an annual banquet. In addition to the plaques awarded to the winners, publishers of winning works are honored with certificates, which is unique in the field.

Zoran Krušvar is a Croatian psychologist and science fiction and fantasy writer, born on April 9, 1977, in Rijeka. He won 4 SFERA awards, in 2002, in 2003, in 2007 and in 2008 from the Zagreb-based science fiction society SFera.

Balticon is the Maryland Regional science fiction convention, sponsored by the Baltimore Science Fiction Society (BSFS). It has been held annually since 1966. The name "Balticon" is trademarked by BSFS.

NASFiC, an abbreviation for North American Science Fiction Convention, is a science fiction convention scheduled in North America during years when a Worldcon is being held outside North America; NASFiCs are held only during such years. Bids for the location of a NASFiC are voted on by the membership of the Worldcon, the year after a non-North-American Worldcon site has been selected. As of 2014, this is one year in advance of a potential NASFiC, since Worldcon sites are chosen two years in advance.

Robert Stratton "Buck" Coulson was an American science fiction writer, well-known fan, filk songwriter, fanzine editor and bookseller from Indiana.

Croatia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "You Are the Only One" written by Ivan Mikulić, Vedran Ostojić and Duško Gruborović. The song was performed by Ivan Mikulić. The Croatian broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) organised the national final Dora 2004 to select the Croatian entry for the 2004 contest in Istanbul, Turkey. Twenty-four entries competed in the national final which consisted of three shows: two semi-finals and a final. Six entries qualified from each semi-final on 12 and 13 March 2004 to compete in the final on 14 March 2004. In the final, "Daješ mi krila" performed by Ivan Mikulić was selected as the winner following a regional televote. The song was later translated from Croatian to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "You Are the Only One".

Albacon is the Albany science fiction convention, held each year in the Albany, New York area, also called the Capital District.

SFeraKon is a science fiction convention that takes place in Zagreb, Croatia every year at the end of April. Organised by SFera, it is the largest and the longest running science fiction convention in southeastern Europe.

SFera is a science fiction society from Zagreb, Croatia. It was founded in 1976, thus marking the beginnings of organised science fiction fandom in the region.

The Science Fiction & Fantasy Translation Awards was a literary award for science fiction and fantasy works translated into English. The first award was presented in 2011 for works published in 2010. Two awards were given, one for long form and one for short form. Both the author and translator receive a trophy and a cash prize of $350. The award was supported a number of ways including direct donations from the public, the Speculative Literature Foundation, prominent academics in particular staff at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), home of the Eaton Collection, one of the world’s largest collections of science fiction and fantasy literature. The last award was for 2013, and the award officially closed in October 2014.

DORF is a film festival featuring music documentary films. The festival was started in 2007 and was organized by Association of movie fans "RARE" in Vinkovci. The festival is held annually in the first half of March. Movies of all formats are selected in three categories—regional, international and out of competition. DORF largely concentrates on covering regional documentary production, and after several years of activity, it opened to international works, and became a member of the Association of music film festivals.

Multigenre Fan Convention Pyrkon is a Polish fan convention held annually in Poznań on the first weekend after the spring equinox and dedicated to an integration of Science fiction fandom and a promotion of science-fiction/fantasy literature, comics, film, television, video games, RPG, LARP, board games, collectible card games and miniature wargaming. Pyrkon is the biggest event of this type in Poland and one of the biggest in Europe.

Futura, Croatian journal of speculative fiction, was a science fiction magazine. It was in circulation between 1992 and 2010.

The SFera Award is awarded annually by the science fiction society SFera in Zagreb since 1981. Until 1991, it was given to participants from whole of Yugoslavia, but since 1994 only for works originally published in Croatian.

Sirius was a Croatian science fiction magazine from Zagreb, SR Croatia, Yugoslavia. It was named after the brightest star in the sky, seen from Earth. It was published by the Zagreb newspaper and publishing house Vjesnik from 1976 to 1989. The magazine stopped circulating in 1990.
