Tajikistan has its system of football leagues. There are four levels of football leagues in Tajikistan.

Football Club Istiklol is a professional football club based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. They currently play in the top division of the country. The club is named after the independence of Tajikistan. Istiklol from Tajik to English is translated as Independence.

Ravshan Kulob is a football club based in Kulob, Tajikistan, formed in 1965 as FK Ansol Kulob. The club was renamed FK Olimp-Ansol Kulob in 2003, before changing to its current name in 2005. They currently play in the top division of the country and play their home matches at Kulob Central Stadium.

Football is the most popular sport in Tajikistan, a country that gained independence in 1991. The national association regularly takes part in competitions organised by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation at senior and youth level. However, the country has not yet enjoyed any real success. While funds are limited, costs for travel and accommodation for international matches are prohibitively high. It is therefore extremely difficult for the national teams to gain experience, apart from in official competitions.

The 2019 Tajikistan Cup is the 28th edition of the Tajikistan Cup, the knockout football tournament of Tajikistan. The cup winner qualifies for the 2020 AFC Cup.
