The 1980 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXII Olympiad, were an international multi-sport event held in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union from 19 July to 3 August. A total of 5,179 athletes representing 80 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participated in 203 events in 22 sports. They were the first Games to be staged in a communist nation.
Guyana competed at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, USSR. They won their first, and only Olympic medal to date during these games. Eight competitors, seven men and one woman, took part in ten events in three sports.
Guyana competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
The Bahamas first participated at the Olympic Games in 1952, and has sent athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games since then, except when they participated in the American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics. The nation has never participated in any Winter Olympic Games.
Grenada first competed at the Olympic Games in 1984, and has participated in each Summer Olympic Games since then. Grenada won its first medal in 2012, a gold in athletics. The Grenada Olympic Committee was formed in 1984 and recognized in the same year.

Iraq was the second non-African country to join the 1976 Boycott, the other being Guyana. Since 1980, Iraq has appeared in every game.
Oman has competed in ten Summer Olympic Games. They have never competed in the Winter Olympic Games. No Omani athlete has won an Olympic medal.
Malta has competed in 17 Summer Olympic Games and 3 Winter Olympic Games, but hasn’t won a medal yet.
São Tomé and Príncipe has competed in seven Games of the Olympiads. They made their first appearance at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. It has never appeared or competed in the Winter Games and has never won any medals at the Games of the Olympiad.

Tajikistan first participated at the Olympic Games as an independent nation in 1996, and has sent athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games since then. The nation has also competed at the Winter Olympics since 2002. To date, Andrei Drygin is one of two people ever to have represented Tajikistan at the Winter Olympic Games, being his country's sole competitor in 2002, 2006, and 2010.
Solomon Islands first participated at the Olympic Games in 1984, and has sent athletes to compete in every Games of the Olympiad since then. The nation has never won an Olympic medal or participated in the Winter Olympic Games.
Athletes have competed as independent Olympians at the Olympic Games for various reasons, including political transition, international sanctions, suspensions of National Olympic Committees, and compassion. Independent athletes have come from North Macedonia, East Timor, South Sudan and Curaçao following geopolitical changes in the years before the Olympics, from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia as a result of international sanctions, from India and Kuwait due to the suspensions of their National Olympic Committees, and from Russia for mass violations of anti-doping rules and, in addition to Belarus, the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.
