HHLA (formerly The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center) is a two-level outdoor mixed-use center that features a blend of entertainment, dining, and shopping venues [1] located at the Howard Hughes Center in Westchester and adjacent to Playa Vista both Westside Los Angeles districts in the city of Los Angeles, California. It is also close to the Fox Hills district in Culver City. [2]
The mall is located on Sepulveda Boulevard beside the San Diego Freeway (Interstate 405), one of the major freeways in Los Angeles with over 297,000 motorists passing daily. [2]
The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center was developed by jH Snyder Company, and opened in 2000. [2] It originally featured The Bridge Cinema De Lux, a luxury movie theater with IMAX screens, several restaurants including Johnny Rockets, Islands, On The Border, Subway and Starbucks, plus a Nordstrom Rack, and Borders Books and Music. The movie theater was eventually purchased by Rave Cinemas and operated under the Rave banner until the theater was one of the 32 locations that was purchased by Cinemark in 2012, but the theater still retained Rave logo until 2015 when it was renovated to be one of Cinemark's flagship theaters, featuring 18 screens, some featuring Cinemark XD. The center was popular around its opening but over the years lost popularity due to its proximity to Westfield Culver City, and it lost some of its big tenants including Borders which closed in 2011 due to the chains liquidation, and Nordstrom Rack which relocated to Westfield Culver City in 2013. [3] On The Border closed and was replaced by Souplantation until it closed in 2017. It did however, manage to attract new tenants to fill some of the vacant space including Buffalo Wild Wings, Dave & Busters, and Kabuki Japanese Restaurant. The Laurus Corp. acquired the Howard Hughes Center, including The Promenade, in 2015. Laurus announced plans for a large-scale residential expansion, remodeling, and overhaul designed by the Jerde Partnership. [4] [5]
The center is part of the 70-acre (280,000 m2) Howard Hughes Center business campus, that includes buildings for mixed use office, retail, and health care tenants. Neighbors include a Pepperdine University satellite campus, and headquarter corporations such as Universal Studios, Univision, and Sony.
The mall was renamed HHLA in 2023. [6]

Downtown Commons, formerly known as Sacramento Downtown Plaza, Westfield (Shoppingtown) Downtown Plaza and Downtown Plaza, is a two-level outdoor mixed-use entertainment and shopping complex operated by JMA Ventures, LLC, located along the alignment of K Street in downtown Sacramento, California, United States, near the State Capitol building. The complex is bordered by J Street to the north, L Street to the south, 7th Street to the east and 4th Street to the west. Downtown Commons' previous format was a mainly two-level outdoor shopping mall commonly known as Downtown Plaza, despite numerous official name changes over the years. The majority of the site has been redeveloped, centering on Golden 1 Center, home of the NBA's Sacramento Kings. The section between 5th and 7th Streets was demolished in 2014 to make room for Golden 1 Center, as well as The Sawyer, a 250-room boutique hotel operated by Kimpton Hotels immediately north of the arena site. The Westside Pavilion is a former shopping mall located in West Los Angeles, California, United States. The University of California, Los Angeles is repurposing it into the UCLA Research Park. La Jolla Village Square is a retail power center with a collection of mostly big box retailers. Before 1992, was an enclosed upscale regional mall with department store anchors and an adjacent "convenience center" portion. It is located in the La Jolla Village neighborhood of San Diego just south of UC San Diego and about one mile west of Westfield UTC, with which it used to compete as an upscale regional mall. It is across the street from "The Shops at La Jolla Village", whose tenants include Whole Foods Market, Nordstrom Rack, and CVS Pharmacy.
