Kandaleru Dam

Kandeleru Dam is an irrigation project built on the Kandaleru River in Rapur Mandal, Nellore district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. [1] The project is part of the Telugu Ganga project that supplies drinking water to Chennai city from the Srisailam reservoir on Krishna River. Kandaleru reservoir is mainly fed by a link canal from Somasila Dam. [2] The Telugu Ganga project provides irrigation.

Design

It is an earth dam about 12 km long. Gross storage capacity is 72 billion cubic feet. [3] The dam includes a head regulator, spillway and a sundial. The lead engineer was Shri Gudimella Raghupathi who designed and built the sundial in the dam.

Telugu Ganga project

The Telugu Ganga project is a joint water supply scheme implemented in 1980s by the then Andhra Pradesh chief minister N.T.Ramarao and Tamilnadu Chief minister M. G. Ramachandran to provide drinking water to Chennai city in Tamil Nadu. It is also known as the Krishna Water Supply Project, since the source of the water is the Krishna river in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Water is drawn from the Srisailam reservoir and diverted towards Chennai through a series of inter-linked canals, over a distance of about 406 kilometres (252 mi), before it reaches the destination at the Poondi reservoir near Chennai. The main checkpoints en route include the Somasila reservoir in Penna River valley, the Kandaleru reservoir, the 'Zero Point' near Uthukkottai where the water enters Tamil Nadu territory and finally, the Poondi reservoir, also known as Satyamurthy Sagar. From Poondi, water is distributed through a system of link-canals to other storage reservoirs located at Red Hills, Sholavaram and Chembarambakkam.

Jalayagnam

Jalayagnam or Jala Yagnam,, is a water management program in India. It has been implemented by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, India, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy as an election promise to the farmers of the state to bring 8.2 million acres under irrigation in five years. Y.S.R has taken required approvals from central government and NGTL. Also other required permissions for all the projects before he died. Like Site clearance, environmental clearance, R & R clearance, wildlife sanctuary clearance, forest clearance and technical advisory committee clearance. By the time he supposed to execute projects on phase manner, Y.S.R died in accident. Subsequently there was other issues like state bifurcation came to high intensity, subsequent Chief Ministers failed to give priority for Jalayagnam.

Polavaram Project Dam in Polavaram, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh

The Polavaram Project is an under construction multi-purpose irrigation National project on the Godavari River in the West Godavari District and East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh. The project has been accorded national project status by the Union Government of India and will be the last to be accorded the status. Its reservoir back water spreads up to the Dummugudem Anicut and approx 115 km on Sabari River side. It is located 40 km to the upstream of Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in Rajamahendravaram City and 25 km from Rajahmundry Airport. Thus back water spreads into parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha States. It gives major boost to tourism sector in Godavari Districts as the reservoir covers the famous Papikonda National Park, Polavaram Hydro electric project(HEP) and National waterway 4 are in under construction at left side of the river.

The Pranahita Chevella Lift Irrigation Project is a lift irrigation project to harness the water of Pranhita tributary of Godavari river for use in the Telangana state of India. The river water diversion barrage across the Pranahita river is located at Thammidihatti village in Komaram Bheem district of Telangana. This lift canal is an inter river basin transfer link by feeding Godavari river water to Krishna river basin. The chief ministers of Telangana and Maharashtra states reached an agreement in 2016 to limit the full reservoir level (FRL) of the barrage at 148 m msl with 1.85 tmcft storage capacity. In the year 2016, this project is divided into two parts. The scheme with diversion canal from the Thammmidihatti barrage to connect to existing Yellampalli reservoir across the Godavari river is presently called Pranahita barrage lift irrigation project. This scheme is confined to providing irrigation facility to nearly 2,00,000 acres in Adilabad district using 44 tmcft water.

Pulichinthala Project Dam in Pulichinta village, Bellamkonda mandal, Guntur district"`UNIQ--ref-0000000D-QINU`"

Pulichintala Project is a multipurpose project serving irrigation needs, hydro power generation and flood control. It is a crucial irrigation facility for farmers of four coastal districts of West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam where irrigation facility for 13 lakh acres. It has 24 gates in all with balancing reservoir with a capacity of 46 tmcft at 175 feet (53 m) MSL full reservoir level (FRL). The project started impounding the water in August 2014. The cost of the project has exceeded Rs.1850 crores.

Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project earlier known as Srisailam Left Bank Canal is an irrigation project located in Nalgonda district in Telangana, India.

Kandula Obula Reddy Gundlakamma Reservoir Project is an irrigation project across the Gundlakamma River located in Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, India. The dam, with 56 million cubic meters of live storage capacity, is located across the Gundlakamma River. It now supplies 100 acres out of the total envisaged area of 80,000. This reservoir also supplies drinking water to the nearby Ongole city.

Mylavaram Dam

Mylavaram Dam is a medium irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh, India. This barrage is located across the Penna river in Kadapa district near Mylavaram. With the completion of srisailam right bank canal, Krishna River water would be fed from Srisailam reservoir to this reservoir. The reservoir has a gross storage capacity of 9.96 tmcft.

Pothireddypadu Reservoir

Velugodu Reservoir is a balancing reservoir and located across the Galeru river, a tributary of Kundu River in Penner River basin, at Velugodu town in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. This reservoir is part of Telugu Ganga project and mainly fed by gravity canal from back waters of Srisailam Dam through Pothireddypadu head / flow regulator located across the feeder canal. Velugodu Reservoir has gross storage capacity of 16.95Tmcft at 265 m MSL full reservoir level.

Singur Dam also written as Singoor is an irrigation, hydroelectric and drinking water project located in Singooru village near Sangareddy district in Telangana, India. It is a major source of drinking water for Hyderabad city.

K. C. Canal

Kurnool Cuddappah Canal popularly known as K.C. Canal is an irrigation canal located in Kurnool and Cuddapah districts in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Penna Ahobilam Balancing Reservoir(PABR) is an irrigation project located across Penna River in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh state in India. Anantapur city gets its drinking water from the PABR. The reservoir with live storage capacity of 305 million cubic metres is mainly fed by Tungabhadra high level canal originating from the Tungabhadra Dam to the extent of 10 Tmcft water. A 20 MW hydro electric power station is also constructed at the dam site.

Nagarjuna Sagar tail pond

Nagarjuna Sagar tail pond is a multipurpose reservoir located 21 km downstream from the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam across the Krishna River near Satrasala in Nalgonda district, India. Its gross water storage capacity is 6 Tmcft. The reservoir water spread area extends up to the toe of the Nagarjuna Sagar dam. The project was completed by July 2014.

Lower Manair Dam Dam in Karimnagar district, Telangana, India

Lower Manair Dam also known as LMD was constructed across the Manair River, at Alugunur village, Thimmapur mandal, Karimnagar District, in the Indian state of Telangana during 1974 to 1985. It provides irrigation to a gross command area of 163,000 hectares.

Somasila Dam Dam in Somasila, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, India

The "Somasila Dam" is a dam constructed across the Penna River near Somasila, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The reservoir impounded by the dam has a surface area of 212.28 km2 with live storage capacity of 1.994 km3 (1,616,562 acre⋅ft) or 75 tmcft.

Vykuntapuram Barrage is an Indian barrage and water storage project. It is under construction on Krishna River 23 kilometers upstream of existing Prakasam Barrage with FRL 25M. It is designed to store 10 TMC of flood water coming from the Vyra and Munneru rivers. The backwater of this dam will extend beyond Pokkunuru to the toe of Pulichintala dam. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for this project on 13 February 2019.
