Machilipatnam Port is a greenfield deep sea port on the coast of Bay of Bengal. It is located at Machilipatnam, the District Headquarters of Krishna district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the pylon for its construction for the first time in 2019. [1]
In May 2023, the former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the work on the Rs 5,156 crore Machilipatnam Port in the Krishna district by unveiling a pylon and offering special prayers on the beach.
The construction of the port, with an initial cargo capacity of 35 million tonnes (35 MMTPA), through four berths-three general cargo berths and one coal terminal. In the future, the capacity of the four-berth deep water port will be increased to 116 million tonnes (116 MMTPA) as the cargo traffic increases gradually. The port is scheduled to be completed in two years. [2]
The work has been awarded to Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL). [3]

The port was originally expected to begin its operations by 2021. Navayuga Engineering Company Limited bagged the project to develop the port on a build-own-operate-transfer basis. [5]
After the YSR Congress party came into power in Andhra Pradesh state in 2019, the project was handed to RITES and was asked to submit a DPR for the same by December 2019. The works were expected to begin by 2020. [6]
There is a proposal to develop a mega thermal power plant near Machilipatnam during 11th Five Year Plan. It is proposed to construct of 2 Nos. General cargo berth and 1 OSV berth in Phase 1 Depth of the Channel: 12.80 Mt with ship handled capacity is 65000 DWT and port anticipated handling capacity. [7]

Vijayawada Metro is proposed light rail transit system in the Indian city of Vijayawada. It is located at Orvakal, situated on National Highway 40, about 18 km (11 mi) from Kurnool and 54 km (34 mi) from Nandyal. The airport covers an area of 1,008 acres (4.08 km2), and has been built at a cost of ₹153 crore as a low-cost airport to improve connectivity to remote areas. It began commercial operations on 28 March 2021. It has been named after Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, who was a prominent freedom fighter in the 19th century.

The 2019–2024 Amaravati protests, simply known as Amaravati protests, were demonstrations in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh triggered by the idea of changing the one capital of Amaravati already identified and developed partially, to three capitals of Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Kurnool by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. This led to concerns that the decision would create chaos and insecurity for farmers who gave their fertile agricultural lands to the government in 29 villages of Guntur district. The protests began in Mandadam, Thullur, Uddandarayunipalem on 18 December 2019. In a few days, the protests spread across Andhra Pradesh Capital Region, in Andhra Pradesh. On 17 December 2020, series of events were done to mark the protests' anniversary.
The Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020 is an act of Andhra Pradesh Legislature aimed at the decentralisation of governance in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The bill was proposed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish three capitals at different places in the state namely Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, and Kurnool, which will serve as executive, legislative and judicial capitals respectively.
