This is a list of countries by cucumber production from the years 2017 to 2021, based on data from the Food and Agriculture Organization Corporate Statistical Database. [1] The estimated total world production for cucumbers in 2021 was 93,528,796 metric tonnes, up 3.1% from 90,754,613 tonnes in 2020. [1] China was by far the largest producer, accounting for nearly 81% of global production at 75,547,733 [1] tonnes. Dependent territories are shown in italics.

The cucumber originates from the Himalayas, China, and Northern Thailand, but now grows on most continents, and many different types of cucumber are grown commercially and traded on the global market.     The Laccadive Sea, also known as the Lakshadweep Sea, is a body of water bordering India, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka. It is located to the southwest of Karnataka, to the west of Kerala and to the south of Tamil Nadu. This warm sea has a stable water temperature through the year and is rich in marine life, the Gulf of Mannar alone hosting about 3,600 species. Mangaluru, Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Ponnani, Kochi, Alappuzha, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Tuticorin, Colombo, and Malé are the major cities on the shore of the Laccadive Sea. The fermentation process is executed either by immersing the cucumbers in an acidic solution or through souring by lacto-fermentation. Pickled cucumbers are often part of mixed pickles.

    Cucumis melo, also known as melon, is a species of Cucumis that has been developed into many cultivated varieties. The fruit is a pepo. The flesh is either sweet or bland, with or without a musky aroma, and the rind can be smooth, ribbed, wrinkled, or netted. In North America, the sweet-flesh varieties are often collectively called muskmelon, including the musky netted-rind varieties and the inodorous smooth-rind varieties, and cantaloupe usually means the former type.
