19 September 2010 Lörrach, Baden-Württemberg 4 [n 1] [n 2] 1822 2010 Lörrach hospital shooting: A woman stabbed and smothered her ex-partner and five-year-old son to death before opening fire on people outside a hospital, killing another person and wounding eighteen others. The Frankfurter Rundschau (FR) is a German daily newspaper, based in Frankfurt am Main. The Rundschau's editorial stance is social liberal. "Wir schaffen das" is a statement made by Angela Merkel, the then-Chancellor of Germany, during the 2015 European migrant crisis. It has been described as a core slogan of the German concept of Willkommenskultur. She repeated the statement several times at the 2015 Christian Democratic Union party conference. The phrase has become a symbol of Merkel's refugee policy used by supporters and detractors alike.

The Heidelberg University shooting occurred on 24 January 2022, when an 18-year-old male student, Nikolai G., opened fire on a crowd during an ongoing lecture in Heidelberg University in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, killing one student and injuring three others. The shooter then fled the scene and later committed suicide by shooting himself.

In September 2018, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Germany at the invitation of the German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier who had invited Erdogan after his re-election in 2018. Erdogan arrived on 27 September and departed on 29 September. With the invitation by Steinmeier, the visit became a state visit which included military honors and a state banquet.

Köhler turned to also staging operas in 2013, beginning with Handel's Teseo at the Oper Frankfurt, where he returned to direct Martin's Le Vin herbé, Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and Zemlinsky's Der Traumgörge.
