The Jatiya Sangsad, often simply referred to as Sangsad and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called members of Parliament, or MPs. The 12th national parliamentary election was held on 7 January 2024. Elections to the body are held every five years, unless a parliament is dissolved earlier by the President of Bangladesh. On 6 August 2024, President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved parliament after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina and ordered to form an interim government.

Bangladesh elects on national level a legislature with one house or chamber. The unicameral Jatiyo Sangshad, meaning national parliament, has 350 members of which 300 members are directly elected through a national election for a five-year term in single-seat constituencies while 50 memberships are reserved for the women who are selected by the ruling party or coalition. The Prime Minister is the head of the government. The president who is the head of the state is elected by the National Parliament. The president of Bangladesh is a ceremonial post and does not exercise any control over the running of the state.

Muhammad Reazuddin Ahmed, popularly known by his nick name Bhola Mia, was a Bangladeshi politician, lawyer and minister. He was a member of parliament for the then Rangpur-13, then Rangpur-15 and Lalmonirhat-3 constituencies. He was the deputy speaker of the 4th parliament of Bangladesh.

Shah Moazzem Hossain was a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and the last deputy prime minister of Bangladesh. He was elected as the Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Rangpur-6 constituency as a Jatiya Party candidate in a by-election in September 1991 and served until November 1995.

Shahjahan Miah is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician. He was elected a member of parliament from Undivided Rajshahi-1 in 1979 and from Chapai Nawabganj-1 in 1991, 15 February 1996, 12 June 1996 and 2001 Bangladeshi general election. He was the organizer of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

Nozir Hossain was a Bangladeshi politician in Sunamganj district of Sylhet Division. He was elected the first Member of Parliament from the Communist Party of Bangladesh in Sunamganj-1 seat in the 1991 Jatiya Sangsad. He joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party on 15 October 1993. Later, for the second time in February 1996 and for the third time in the 2001 the Bangladesh Nationalist Party was elected to the same seat.

Sharaf Uddin Khashru is a politician in Sylhet District of Bangladesh. He was elected a member of parliament from Sylhet-6 on the Jatiya Party ticket in the fifth Jatiya Sangsad elections held in the 1991 and in the sixth Jatiya Sangsad elections held on 15 February 1996, was elected a member of parliament from Sylhet-6 seat for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Abdul Mukit Khan Bangladeshi politician. He is a 3rd time Member of Parliament elected from Sylhet-3 seat in the Bangladesh National Parliamentary Election. He was elected a member of Parliament the Jatiya Sangsad in the 1988 elections, 1991 elections and the June 1996 elections.

Mojibur Rahman was a Jatiya Party (Ershad) politician and the former Member of Parliament for Lalmonirhat-2. He served 7 terms.

Anisur Rahman is a Bangladeshi politician of the Jatiya Party (Ershad) and a former member of parliament for undivided Mymensingh-6 and Mymensingh-7. He was an organizer of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

Mostaq Ahmad Chowdhury, known as Mostaq Mia, is a Bangladesh Awami League politician. He was elected a member of parliament from undivided Chittagong-17 in 1973 and from Cox's Bazar-3 in 1991. He was an organizer of the Bangladesh Liberation War.

A Member of Parliament (MP) in Bangladesh is a member of the unicameral legislature of Bangladesh, the Jatiya Sangsad or House of the Nation. A majority of members are elected directly in general elections, while a minority of seats are reserved exclusively for women and allocated on a proportional basis. The Constitution specifies that Parliament consists of 300 directly elected members, while 50 seats are reserved for women. The individual who leads the largest party or alliance in parliament usually becomes Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The parliament is currently dissolved by order of the President until the next general election due to the result of the protests ousting the current government.
