The National Democratic Party is a right-wing political party in Bangladesh. [1] [2] Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury was elected member of the fifth parliament of Bangladesh. Khandaker Golam Mortuza was the chairman of the National Democratic Party until 2018. [3] K M Abu Taher is the chairman and Abdullah-Al-Harun (Sohel) is Secretary General of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

History

Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury led the National Democratic Party in the early 1990s and worked against the Bangladesh Awami League against the Bangladesh Nationalist Party government. [4]

The National Democratic Party joined the National Democratic Front, an alliance of 10 nationalist parties, in September 2014. [5] The party had left the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led Grand Alliance in October 2014. [6] Chowdhury was elected to Parliament on a National Democratic Party nomination from Chittagong-6 in 1991. [7]

The National Democratic Party left the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 2022 and created a 12-party alliance. [8] [9]

However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition.

Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury was a Bangladeshi politician, minister and six-term member of Jatiya Sangsad and member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee, who served as the adviser of parliamentary affairs to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in from 2001 to 2006. On 1 October 2013 he was convicted of 9 of 23 charges and sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh for crimes during the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence. However, limitations placed on his defense testimony were called "disturbing" and the trial was politically motivated.

The Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP is a political party in Bangladesh. The party traces its origins to a splinter group of the National Awami Party (Bhashani) led by Mashiur Rahman, who was popularly known as Jadu Mia. Jadu Mia's NAP faction had merged with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the late 1970s. Jadu Mia's son Shafiqul Ghani Swapan refounded the Bangladesh National Awami Party in December 2006. Shafiqul Ghani Swapan died in 2009, after which Jebel Rahman Ghaani took over as party chairman.
