NRK3 (NRK Tre) is a digital TV channel aimed at youth and young adults and produced by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation.

History

Launched on 3 September 2007, and on air from 19:30 each evening, the channel features such British and American shows as Sugar Rush , Heroes , Third Watch , The Daily Show , True Blood , Top Gear and Primeval , as well as Norwegian and Scandinavian youth productions like Topp 20, and Det beste fra Åpen Post. In addition the channel recently[ as of? ] started broadcasting the immensely popular Australian soap-opera Neighbours . Late at night, typically after midnight, NRK3 aired the show Svisj, an interactive programme with music videos and SMS chat. It ended in 2012

NRK3 shares its frequency with NRK Super, a children's TV channel that was launched on 1 December 2007. NRK Super broadcasts between 7am and 7pm. [1] [2]

TV 2 Direkte is a Norwegian terrestrial television channel. Its headquarters are located in Bergen. TV 2 began test broadcasting on 13 November 1991, and a year later, it was officially launched on 5 September 1992, becoming Norway's first commercial free-to-air television channel. In 1992, TV 2 A/S was admitted as full active member of the European Broadcasting Union.

Viasat was a satellite and pay television brand, co-owned by the Swedish media group Viaplay Group in the Nordic countries, Antenna Group in Hungary, and by Viasat World internationally. Founded in Sweden in 1991, Viasat has previously been owned by Modern Times Group. The channels of both companies were broadcast from London.

Norges Televisjon AS, or NTV, operates the digital terrestrial television (DTT) network in Norway. NRK Super is a Norwegian TV and radio channel aimed at children, run by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. The TV channel is broadcast on the digital terrestrial network, officially from 06:30 to 19:30 (7:30pm), and was launched 1 December 2007. The NRK Super radio channel is broadcast on DAB radio 24/7 and on internet radio, and was originally named NRK Barn. It was launched on 16 October 2007.

Television in Norway was introduced in 1954, but the first television program was only shown in 1958, and regular broadcasts did not start until 1960. Like Denmark, Norway had only one television channel until the 1980s. Some 40% of the population have cable TV, and 30% have satellite TV. Another 30% have terrestrial television only.

RiksTV is the distributor of pay television in the Norwegian digital terrestrial television network.
