The North Ninth Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Downtown Columbia, Missouri, USA. It encompasses seven contributing buildings in an area that has historically been a center of commerce, recreation and culture. They were built between about 1885 and 1954, and are the L.J. Slate Billiard Hall (c. 1913), Allen Arnold Building (c. 1894), A. Victor Building (c. 1894), Lafayette Hume Building (c. 1885), Varsity Theatre (1927), Crosswhite Bakery (c. 1918), and Hume Building (c. 1904). St. Andrew's Episcopal Chapel is an historic Episcopal church located at 576 Fairmont Street in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
The Coca-Cola Bottling Company Building, also known as the Kelly Press Building, is a historic commercial building located on Hitt Street in downtown Columbia, Missouri. It was built in 1935, and is a 1 1/2-story, Colonial Revival style brick building with a side gable roof with three dormers. It has a long one-story rear ell. Today it houses Uprise Bakery, Ragtag Cinema, Ninth Street Video, and Hitt Records.
The Sanford F. Conley House is a historic home located at Columbia, Missouri. It is an ornate 19th century residence in the Italianate architectural style. Built in 1868 as a residence for his family by the businessman Sanford Francis Conley (1838–1890). The house is near the University of Missouri campus. After being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, the house was purchased by the university and houses the school's "excellence in teaching" program.
The David Gordon House and Collins Log Cabin were two historic homes located at Columbia, Missouri. The David Gordon House is a two-story, frame I-house. The 13-room structure incorporated original construction from about 1823 and several additions from the 1830s, 1890s and 1930s. The Collins Log Cabin was built in 1818, and is a single pen log house of the story and a loft design. They represent some of the first permanent dwellings in Columbia. The house, located in what is now Stephens Lake Park burned after arson in the early 1990s. The log cabin survived has been relocated from Stephens Lake Park to the campus of the Boone County Historical Society.
Downtown Columbia is the central business, government, and social core of Columbia, Missouri and the Columbia Metropolitan Area. Three colleges — the University of Missouri, Stephens College, and Columbia College — all border the area. Downtown Columbia is an area of approximately one square mile surrounded by the University of Missouri on the south, Stephens College to the east, and Columbia College on the north. The area serves as Columbia's financial and business district and is the topic of a large initiative to draw tourism, which includes plans to capitalize on the area's historic architecture and Bohemian characteristics. The downtown skyline is relatively low and is dominated by the 10-story Tiger Hotel, built in 1928, and the 15-story Paquin Tower.
The First Christian Church is a historic Disciples of Christ church located at 101 North Tenth Street in Columbia, Missouri. It was designed by T.N. Bell of Chicago, Illinois and built in 1893. It has a Richardsonian Romanesque style Sanctuary that includes a square bell tower, horizontal massing with contrasting high gables, round arches, heavy and highly textured stone work, and voussoir arches. The Education Building was designed by Eugene Groves and added in 1929. This is the second church building to stand at this site. The building is still a functioning church today.
Greenwood, also known as Greenwood Heights, is a historic home located at Columbia, Missouri. It was built about 1839, and is a two-story, "T"-plan, Federal style red brick farmhouse on a stone foundation. It is one of the oldest remaining structures in Boone County, Missouri. Today the house is under private ownership.
First Church of Christ, Scientist, is an historic Christian Science church edifice located at 475 North Kingshighway Boulevard, corner of Westminster Place, in St. Louis, Missouri. Built in 1903–1904, it was designed as a stone building in the Classical Revival style of architecture by Edward Gordon Garden of Mauran, Russell and Garden and was the first institutional commission of that fledgling firm. Cost concerns, though, resulted in it being built of brick. It is a contributing property in the Holy Corners Historic District which was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 29, 1975.
The Wright Brothers Mule Barn, also known as Rader Packing Co. Bldg. and Diggs Building, is a historic structure built by L.W. and B.C. Wright located at Columbia, Missouri. It is located in an industrial area north of Downtown Columbia, Missouri. The 1 1/2-story masonry building was Mid-Missouri's leading mule facility in the 1920s. Today the building has been restored and renovated and offices and lofts.
The Eighth and Broadway Historic District is one of the seven national historic districts located in Columbia, Missouri. The district is made up of three contributing properties and is located at the intersection of Eighth and Broadway Streets in Downtown Columbia. They consist of the Beaux-Arts style Miller Building (1910), the Italianate style Matthews Hardware, and the Art Deco style Metropolitan Building. Today, the area holds loft apartments and several local business including Rally House, Sycamore, Peace Nook, and Geisha.
The Stephens College South Campus Historic District is a national historic district on the campus of Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. It includes the historic core of Stephens College in Eastern Downtown Columbia, Missouri. The District includes Senior Hall, Hickman Hall, Columbia Hall, and Wood Hall.
The Pierce Pennant Motor Hotel, also known as the Candle Light Lodge, is a historic hotel complex that is located on what once was U.S. Route 40, which is now known as Business Loop 70 West in Columbia, Missouri. The hotel complex was constructed in 1929 and is in the Colonial Revival style. The hotel was also a gas station and garage, and was owned by Pierce Petroleum Company, a subsidiary of Standard Oil. Initially the hotel and garage complex was to be one of several along U.S. Hwy 40, each to be spaced about 150 miles apart from New York to San Francisco.
The Hood County Courthouse Historic District in Granbury, Hood County, Texas encompasses 12 acres of land. The principal building in and the focal point of the district is the historic Hood County Courthouse built in 1890–1891. Other major buildings include the 1885 Hood County Jailhouse, the 1885 First National Bank Building, the 1891 building which formerly housed the Hood County News, the 1893 Aston-Landers Saloon Building, the 1893 Nutt Brothers Building, and the 1886 Granbury Opea House. On June 5, 1974, the district was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The nomination form called it "one of the most complete nineteenth century courthouse squares in Texas." The district is also recognized as a State Antiquities Landmark and includes several Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks.
General Winfield Scott Hancock is an equestrian statue of Winfield Scott Hancock, by Henry Jackson Ellicott together with architect Paul J. Pelz. It is located at Pennsylvania Avenue in United States Navy Memorial Park at the northwest corner of 7th Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C.
The San Bernardino County Court House, is a Classical Revival building located at 351 N. Arrowhead Ave. in San Bernardino, is the county courthouse for San Bernardino County, California. The courthouse was built in 1927 and has served as the center of county government since then. A 1937 welfare building, a 1940 county library, and a 1940 heating plant are also located on the courthouse grounds, which are extensively landscaped and include a fountain, sundial, plaque, and the remains of the former county courthouse.
The Belle Plaine Main Street Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Belle Plaine, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. At the time of its nomination it contained 63 resources, which included 46 contributing buildings, one contributing structure, and 16 non-contributing buildings. The historic district covers most of the city's central business district. Belle Plaine was laid out in 1862 as a railroad town. The Chicago & North Western Railroad was extended from Cedar Rapids the following year. The commercial district is adjacent to the tracks. A major fire destroyed much of the business district in 1894. Thirty-five buildings in the district were built in the months after the fire.
Jefferson Historic District is a national historic district located at Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. The district encompasses 161 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, and 22 contributing structures in a predominantly residential section of Lafayette. It developed between about 1853 and 1951 and includes representative examples of Italianate, Greek Revival, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable contributing resources include the Deutsche Evangelische Kirche (1905), Isador Metzger House, Hubert Gilmartin House, B.F. Biggs Pump Factory Building, Deutsche Methodist Kirche (1885), Herman & Mary Fletemeyer House, Mohr House, Warrenberg-Reule Double House, Alfred Gaddis House, Wabash Valley House (1862), Haywood Tag Company Building (1928), and Jefferson High School (1927).
The North Village Arts District is a neighborhood and arts district in Columbia, Missouri. It is located on the northeast side of Downtown Columbia, and is the city's main art gallery district and center for the visual arts. The neighborhood is also home to restaurants, bars, food trucks, housewares shops, theaters, and a distillery. Rose Music Hall, a popular music venue, is located on Park Avenue. There are several dance studios, including the Missouri Contemporary Ballet. The district hosts a monthly art crawl called "First Fridays".
