The Oakland Hotel is a historic building in Oakland, California. It was built as a luxury hotel by P.J. Walker in 1912, with investments from businessmen Francis Marion Smith, Edson Adams and W.W. Garthwaite. [2] From 1943 to 1963, it was a hospital for the United States Army and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. [2] It was subsequently unoccupied until 1978, when it reopened as a retirement home. [2]
The building was designed in the Renaissance Revival style by architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh. [2] It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since September 4, 1979. [1]
Oakland is a town in and the county seat of Garrett County, Maryland, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2020 census. It is situated only miles from the source of the Potomac River, which flows directly into Chesapeake Bay. It is also near the Wisp Resort at Deep Creek Lake. Oakland is part of the Pittsburgh media market.
