Parryville is a rural locality of the Shire of Denmark in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, on the shore of the Southern Ocean. The South Coast Highway runs through the north of Parryville, and the Owingup and Quarram Nature Reserves are both partially located in Parryville. [2] [3]

History

Parryville and the Shire of Denmark, according to the shire's website, are located on the traditional land of the Bibulman and Mineng people of the Noongar nation. [4] The Mineng's traditional lands cover the majority of the shire while the Bibulman's traditional lands are to the west and, according to other sources, do not extend into the Shire of Denmark. [5] [6] [7]

The Point Hillier Cairn, located near the south coast of Parryville, is listed on the shire's heritage register. It is rock cairn built as a trigonometric station between 1876 and 1879. [8]

The Parry's Beach Settlement is also on the shire's heritage list. Originally a fishing settlement, only two shacks and a boat shed remain at what is now a popular campsite. [9]

The Parryville Hall and the Parryville Group Settlement House are located in what is now the locality of William Bay, to the east of Parryville. Parryville was settled as part of the Group Settlement Scheme in the 1920s, being part of Group Settlement number 113. [10] [11]

Owingup Swamp, in the west of the locality and now part of the Owingup Nature Reserve, was once seen as an area of great market gardening potential when the Group Settlement was established there. [12]

William Bay is a rural locality of the Shire of Denmark in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, on the shore of the Southern Ocean. The South Coast Highway runs through William Bay from east to west. The entire coastline of William Bay is covered by the William Bay National Park, with both the locality and national park sharing its name with the bay of the Southern Ocean.

Broke is a rural locality of the Shire of Manjimup in the South West region of Western Australia, stretching along the coastline of the Southern Ocean. The South Western Highway forms the north-eastern border of the locality. Most of the locality as covered by national park, predominantly the D'Entrecasteaux National Park, except for the far east, which is covered by the Walpole-Nornalup National Park. The large Broke Inlet lies in the centre of Broke while, in the east, the locality lies on the shore of the Nornalup Inlet.

Channybearup is a rural locality of the Shire of Manjimup in the South West region of Western Australia. The locality is predominantly covered by state forest but a small section of the Greater Beedelup National Park also stretches into the north-west of Channybearup.

Ringbark is a rural locality of the Shire of Manjimup in the South West region of Western Australia, with the South Western Highway forming the eastern border of the locality.

Upper Warren is a rural locality of the Shire of Manjimup in the South West region of Western Australia. Its northern and eastern borders are formed by the Muir Highway, while it borders the South Western Highway at its far south-western corner. The Warren River runs from through the locality from east to west while, in places, also forming its border.

Woogenellup, sometimes also spelled Woogenilup, is a rural locality of the Shire of Plantagenet in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The eastern border of Woogenellup is formed by Chester Pass Road, while the southern boundary of the Stirling Range National Park forms its northern border. The Kalgan River runs through the locality from north-west to south-east, and the Kalgan Plains Nature Reserve is located within Woogenellup, south of the river.

Perillup is a rural locality of the Shire of Plantagenet in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The Muir Highway passes through the locality from west to east while the Kent River passes through its north before forming much of its western border. Most of the locality south of the highway is taken up by the Mount Roe National Park while, to the north of the highway, the Randell Road and the unnamed WA11343 Nature Reserves are located.

Forest Hill is a rural locality of the Shire of Plantagenet in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The Muir Highway passes through the locality from west to east, as does the Hay River. The Pardelup, Pardelup Road, Kwornicup Lake and Wamballup Nature Reserves are located within Forest Hill. Pardelup Prison Farm is also located within Forest Hill.

Hazelvale is a rural locality of the Shire of Denmark in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The Frankland River forms much of the western border of Hazelvale. The Walpole-Nornalup National Park extends into the south-west of the locality.

Trent is a rural locality of the Shire of Denmark in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The Frankland River forms much of the western border of Trent. Most of the locality is covered by national park, with the Mount Frankland South National Park in the south and south-west, the Mount Frankland National Park in the north-west, and the Mount Roe National Park in the east.

Kentdale is a rural locality of the Shire of Denmark in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The South Coast Highway and the Kent River form much of the southern border of Kentdale, with the Owingup Nature Reserve located along the river.

Shadforth is a rural locality of the Shire of Denmark in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The South Coast Highway forms much of the southern border of Shadforth. The Mount Shadforth Nature Reserve is located in the south of Shadforth, south of the mountain, Mount Shadforth.
