Perusahaan Umum Pengangkutan Penumpang Djakarta (lit. Djakarta Passenger Transport Public Corporation) simplified as Perum PPD or PPD, was an Indonesian statutory corporation operating land transportation in Jakarta and the surrounding areas. It was merged into DAMRI on 8 June 2023. [1]
It is known that Perum PPD operated approximately 494 single buses [2] and 59 articulated buses [3] for TransJakarta. Perum PPD was also known to operate JA Connexion, [4] JR Connexion [5] and Transjabodetabek routes serving Jakarta's suburban area and Trans Sarbagita in Denpasar, Bali.
Founded back at 1920, Perum PPD is a state owned company that is under control of the Ministry of Transportation that went along with the country's history. What would be Perum PPD, which have been commissioned as a public company in 1981 based on Government Regulation No. 24 of 1981 which is enhanced into Government Regulation No. 32 of 1984, is the result of merging the Nederlandsch Indische Tram Maatschappij with the Bataviasch Elektrische Tram Maatschappij approaching in 1925 corresponding with the advice from the Burgemeester of Batavia City which was under Ir. Voorneman and became Bataviasche Verkeers Maatschappij (BVM NV). [6]
However, since the occupation of Japan in Indonesia from 1942 until 1945, BVM NV was changed into Djakarta Shinden (Jakarta Tram (ジャカルタ市電, Jakarta Shiden)) which only operates the city's tram. City buses from the BVM NV was used for other needs. Just a day after The Nation proclaimed independence, a number of workers of Djakarta Shinden sponsored by Menteng 31 youth urged for the Japanese authorities to immediately hand over the tram to the youth. Since 20 August 1945, the tram was handed over to the Indonesian Government and was operated by Djawatan Kereta Api tram section. [6]
To prioritize public interest, BVMNV was then nationalized and controlled by the Transport Minister under Emergency Act No.10 of 1954. [7] As a follow-up to the nationalization, with deed from notary Mr. Raden Suwandi No. 76 dated 30 June 1954 and No. 82 dated 21 December 1954, BVMNV has its legal form as a public company and named Perum Pengangkut Penumpang Djakarta (Perum PPD).
Based on Government Regulation No. 205 of 1961, the company changes status to state company (PN) under the Department of Land Transportation, Post, Telecommunication and Tourism, became Perusahaan Negara Pengangkutan Penumpang Djakarta (PN PPD). Then based on Government Regulation No. 229 year 1961 dated 20 September 1961, management of PN PPD was handed over from the Department of Land Transportation, Post, Telecommunication and Tourism to the Regional Government of DKI Jakarta. In 1981, management of PN PPD was returned to the national government through the Department of Transportation based on Government Regulation No. 23 of 1981 dated 17 July 1981. The company status became public company or perusahaan umum (perum) based on Government Regulation No. 24 of 1981, thus PN PPD returned into Perum PPD. [6]
In 1991, Mercedes Benz OH 408s with completely built-up (CBU) body by Volgren and some completely knocked down (CKD) units with locally made bodies were purchased in preparation of the 1992 Non-Aligned Movement Summit. [8] These buses were then operated by Perum PPD and Perum DAMRI as city buses in various cities throughout the country. The national government also received some to be operated as staff buses. In 2004, Perum PPD added 55 former Japanese buses to the fleet of regular city buses. Previously, Perum PPD received 30 buses donated by the Government of Japan and did not encounter problems. [9] Perum PPD regular city bus services thrive up to 2011.
2011 starts a new era of public transportation in Jakarta. TransJakarta starts to open new routes, often overlapping Perum PPD regular routes. At this point, Perum PPD buses reach an age of 20 to 30 years without replacement, known as reckless buses and encounters many problems. In January 2011, the Jakarta Department of Transportation eradicates 15 bus route permits, including six Perum PPD routes. [10] In 2013, Perum PPD did a transformation from regular city bus to Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Perum PPD also did a transformation in the management in several aspects, namely financial, manpower and operational. [6] By the end of 2016, all PPD city bus routes are either eradicated or deformed into a TransJakarta route (ex: PPD 213 into Corridor 5A, PPD 43 into Corridor 10, PPD 210 into Corridor 4A, etc).
On 8 June 2023, Perum PPD was officially dissolved and merged with DAMRI, based on the Government Regulation (Peraturan Pemerintah or PP) No. 30/2023. The regulation was signed two days earlier. The merge was first proposed by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir in December 2022. [1]
Perum PPD had a number of sub-divisions serving different services, which are now controlled by Perum DAMRI.
Perum PPD operates 494 of the initial 600 Hino RK8JSKA-NHJ R260 units donated from the Ministry of Transportation for TransJakarta. [2] Operation began on 11 April 2016 with a fleet of 10 buses, then gradually increases up to 494 units. [11] These buses are distinguished by having 1 door each side, instead of the 2 doors on a standard single TransJakarta bus. The doors utilize sliding mechanism. The driver's door on the left anterior is also used for feeder operation. Buses are bodied by Restu Ibu Pusaka (Integra), Rahayu Santosa (Cityliner), and Laksana (Discovery). Unlike most newer TransJakarta buses, these units are not equipped with partitions separating the driver from the passengers. Beforehand, these buses are not equipped with CCTV and side running text display boards. However, as TransJakarta sets new service standards, CCTV and side running text display boards are mandatory equipment, therefore these facilities were then equipped to the buses. Seats are arranged to face the aisle. New Tap-On-Bus (TOB) equipment are also being added to support cashless feeder operation. Routes that SBU TransBusway buses serve are daily set by TransJakarta.
The main aim of this SBU is to create an urban transport that is effective, efficient, technology based and integrated with the airport and Jabodetabek region. [12] Approximately 150 units are operated under SBU Transjabodetabek. The fleet consists of former APTB units and canceled SBU TransBusway units, therefore has an identical look to SBU TransBusway units. The main difference is by the service sticker on each side, near the doors. Units are operated for JA Connexion, JR Connexion and Transjabodetabek services, which are not integrated to the TransJakarta BRT service. Services are carried out throughout Jabodetabek. The service entirely utilizes the left anterior driver's door. Front-facing seats are featured and some are equipped with bag racks (mostly for JA Connexion service) to accommodate suitcases. All units are Hino RK8JSKA-NHJ R260s with a variety of bodies by Trisakti (Ultima), New Armada (Customed Aristo), and Laksana (Discovery).
Perum PPD operates 59 articulated Zhongtong LCK6180GC buses for TransJakarta in cooperation with PT. Mobilindo Armada Cemerlang. [3] [13] This is the third batch of Zhongtong articulated buses for TransJakarta, after the first batch bought by Perum DAMRI and the second by the Jakarta Department of Transportation. A blue - white livery with blue stripes distinguishes these units from its identical predecessors that were colored with a red - yellow livery. The interior is dominated with yellow railings and features cushioned chairs. The units were imported in 2016, however administration problems led to a delay of operations up to 2019. [14] It is stated that these units are not a part of the 2013 Bus Corruption. [15]
In early November 2020, Perum PPD expanded its operations to Bali. [16] 12 buses are operated initially, alongside 2 electric buses by BYD and PT INKA. 5 routes will be operated. [17]
SBU Pemeliharaan dan Perbaikan Bus provides reliable repair and maintenance service. Supported by competent manpower, this SBU ensures buses are always at optimum perfect working condition. Aside from serving SBU TransJabodetabek units, this SBU serves other buses that needs maintenance. [18]
Transjakarta or Jakarta BRT is a bus rapid transit (BRT) system in Jakarta, Indonesia. The first BRT system in Southeast Asia, it commenced operations on 15 January 2004 to provide a fast public transport system to help reduce rush hour traffic. The system is considered as the first revolutionary public transit mode in the capital city of Indonesia. The buses run in dedicated lanes (busways), and ticket prices are subsidised by the regional government. Transjakarta has the world's longest BRT system, which operates about 4,300 buses. Transjakarta aims to have 50 percent of its fleet be electric buses by 2027. By 2030, the aim is for the entire Transjakarta ecosystem to use electric buses. As of November 2023, it serves an average of 1.134 million passengers daily.
Tangerang Regency is a regency of Banten Province, Indonesia. It is located in the northwest of the island of Java. The current regent is Ahmed Zaki Iskandar. Though commonly misunderstood as being a part of Jakarta, Tangerang is actually outside Jakarta City but is part of Greater Jakarta. Since 1993, the regency has lost territory as first Tangerang city was split off on 27 February 1993 and subsequently South Tangerang city was split off on 29 October 2008. The residual Regency now has an area of 1,034.54 km2 and a population of 2,834,376 at the 2010 census, growing to 3,245,619 at the 2020 census; the latest official estimate is 3,309,365, reflecting a recent slowing down in the rate of population growth since 2020. The town of Tigaraksa is the regency seat.

Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto(Gatot Subroto Avenue) is one of the major roads in Jakarta, Indonesia. The road starts from Dirgantara statue in South Jakarta, which crosses 10 administrative villages and ends at Slipi, Central Jakarta. The road is named after National Hero of Indonesia General Gatot Subroto. The road was constructed in 1960s. The road runs parallel with Jakarta Inner Ring Road. The location of the road is within the Golden Triangle CBD of Jakarta. Many important office buildings and skyscrapers are situated along the road.
DAMRI Public Corporation is an Indonesian state-owned bus operator. Under further development as a public company, the name DAMRI is still used as a brand mark of this state-owned company that still carries out passenger and cargo transport using buses and trucks.
In Indonesia, state-owned enterprises play an important role in the national economy. Their roles includes contributor for national economy growth, providing goods or services which are not covered by private company, employment provider, providing support guidance to small and medium businesses, and source of government revenue. The Ministry of State Owned Enterprises represents the government's function as a shareholder of most of those companies, while some are represented by the Ministry of Finance.

The Transjakarta Corridor 1 is the Transjakarta bus rapid transit route in Jakarta, Indonesia. The route operates between Blok M Terminal and Jakarta Kota railway station. It is the first route of the Transjakarta BRT system. The roads that are traversed by Corridor 1 are along Jalan Sultan Hasanuddin, Trunojoyo, Sisingamangaraja, Sudirman, MH Thamrin, Medan Merdeka Barat, Gajah Mada / Hayam Wuruk, Pintu Besar Utara, Kali Besar Barat, Kunir, and Lada Dalam. Key integration points include Dukuh Atas TOD that is currently an integration point for four transport modes, Jakarta Kota station which serves KRL Commuterline, and Harmoni station that is one of the main hubs in the BRT system. From Blok M to Bundaran HI ASTRA stations, this corridor is in parallel with North–South Line of the Jakarta MRT, thus many of the BRT stations are integrated directly with the MRT stations. Currently, all bus stations are served by buses 24 hours a day.
Metrotrans is a bus operated by TransJakarta. Introduced in 2017, replacing aging MetroMini and Kopaja buses, The Metrotrans bus design is based on European-styled low floor bus. A newer, electric powered bus joined the line up since 2022. Those electric buses are from Chinese companies such as BYD, Skywell, Golden Dragon, and Zhongtong.

Transjakarta Corridor 9 is a bus rapid transit corridor in Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. The corridor connects the Pinang Ranti bus terminal in East Jakarta with the Pluit BRT station in North Jakarta. The roads traversed by Corridor 9 are: Jalan Pondok Gede Raya, Jagorawi Toll Road, Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo, Jalan Letjen M.T. Haryono, Jalan Jend. Gatot Subroto, Jalan Letjen S. Parman, Jalan Satria/Prof. Dr. Makaliwe, Jalan Prof. Dr. Latumeten, Jalan Jembatan Tiga, and Jalan Pluit Putri/Putra. Corridor 9 is integrated with the KAI Commuter Bogor Line service at the Cikoko BRT station that connects to the Cawang railway station and the Tangerang Line at Kali Grogol BRT station that connects to the Grogol railway station. Corridor 9 is also integrated with Jabodebek LRT from Cawang to Pancoran BRT stations.
Transjakarta Corridor 10 is a bus rapid transit corridor in Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. It connects the Tanjung Priok bus terminal in North Jakarta to the Pusat Grosir Cililitan (PGC) mall in East Jakarta. The streets traversed by Corridor 10 are along Enggano, Yos Sudarso, Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Mayjen DI Panjaitan and Mayjen Sutoyo streets. Much of this corridor's route runs parallel to and beneath the elevated Cawang–Tanjung Priok segment of the Jakarta Inner Ring Road. Corridor 10 is integrated with the KRL Commuterline Cikarang Loop Line service at Jatinegara Station via Flyover Jatinegara BRT station and the Tanjung Priok Line at the Tanjung Priuk railway station.
Transjakarta Corridor 5 is a bus rapid transit corridor in Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. The corridor connects Ancol, North Jakarta with the Kampung Melayu Bus Terminal in Jatinegara, East Jakarta. The roads that passed by Corridor 5 are Jalan Gunung Sahari, Jalan Pasar Senen, Jalan Kramat Raya, Jalan Salemba Raya, Jalan Matraman Raya, Jalan Jatinegara Barat/Timur and arrive at Kampung Melayu Terminal. From Pademangan to Bali Mester stations, several stations are close to KRL Commuterline stations.
Blok M Terminal is a type-B bus terminal located within the commercial and entertainment quarter of Blok M in Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta, Indonesia. It only serves city transport buses that connects several regions in Jakarta and its surrounding cities. The terminal primarily serves Transjakarta's BRT corridors and feeder routes. Perum DAMRI also operates numbers of shuttle bus services from the Soekarno–Hatta International Airport and several gated communities in Greater Jakarta to Blok M terminal. Apart from DAMRI, Mayasari Bakti and Sinar Jaya also operates their bus routes to this terminal.
Transjakarta Corridor 12 is a bus rapid transit corridor in Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. It connects the Pluit BRT station to the Tanjung Priok bus terminal. The streets that passed by Corridor 12 are along Pluit Putri/Putra, Pluit Timur, Pluit Selatan, Jembatan Tiga, Bandengan Selatan, Gedong Panjang, Kopi, Tiang Bendera 5, Roa Malaka Utara, Tiang Bendera, Kunir, Lada Dalam, Bank, Kali Besar Barat, Jembatan Batu, Mangga Dua, Gunung Sahari, Angkasa, HBR Motik, Danau Sunter Barat, Danau Sunter Utara, Mitra Sunter Boulevard, Danau Sunter Selatan Dalam, Yos Sudarso, and Enggano streets. This corridor is integrated with Jakarta Kota Station at the Kota BRT station, Kampung Bandan Station at Mangga Dua BRT station, and also the Tanjung Priuk railway station at the Tanjung Priok terminal.
The Transjakarta Corridor 2 is a bus rapid transit corridor in Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. It connects the Pulo Gadung Bus Terminal in East Jakarta to the Monumen Nasional BRT station in Central Jakarta. The streets that are passed by Corridor 2 are Perintis Kemerdekaan, Letjen Suprapto, Imam Sapi'i.e., Kwini II, Abdul Rahman Saleh, Pejambon, Medan Merdeka Timur, Perwira, Katedral, Ir. H. Djuanda, Veteran III, and Medan Merdeka Utara streets, and terminates at Monas. In the opposite direction, the route passes Medan Merdeka Barat, Medan Merdeka Selatan, and Kwitang Raya streets, then continues at Letjen Suprapto Street towards Pulo Gadung. This corridor is integrated with the Pasar Senen railway station, which serves the KRL Commuterline and the intercity train services via Pasar Senen BRT station and the Juanda railway station, which serves KRL Commuterline service only via Juanda BRT station.
Transjakarta Corridor 4 is a bus rapid transit corridor in Jakarta, Indonesia, operated by Transjakarta. It serves the route from the Pulo Gadung Bus Terminal to the Galunggung BRT station in Dukuh Atas TOD. The roads that passed by Corridor 4 are Bekasi Raya, Pemuda, Pramuka, Tambak, Sultan Agung, and Galunggung; currently buses are temporarily rerouted to Matraman Raya, Slamet Riyadi, Manggarai Utara 1 and 2 streets, as traffic at Tambak street is affected by the ongoing Jakarta LRT construction. This route is integrated with the KAI Commuter Cikarang Loop Line at Sudirman Station via Galunggung BRT station, and Manggarai Station which also serves the Bogor Line, Cikarang Loop Line, and the Airport Rail Link routes via the Manggarai BRT station. KRL Commuterline users who want to go to Rawamangun and Pulo Gadung can alight at Sudirman Station and continue their trip from Galunggung, Manggarai, or Pasar Genjing BRT stations. This corridor has been integrated with the Jakarta LRT at the Velodrome LRT station via the Pemuda Rawamangun BRT station.
