The Trans-Sulawesi Railway (Indonesian : Jalur kereta api Trans-Sulawesi), is a railway network in the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The first phase includes 146 kilometers route from Makassar to Parepare, which was completed in November 2022 and has been operating ever since. [2] The total plan for the railway would be around 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) spanning from Makassar to Manado. [3] Most of other sections are still under construction. [2] [3]
The Trans-Sulawesi Railway are built with 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in) standard gauge which is wider than the 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) cape gauge used in Java and Sumatra to accommodate more weight and speed. [4] [5]
The ground breaking of Makassar–Parepare route was conducted on 18 August 2014 in, Siawung Village, Barru District, Barru Regency. On early November 2022, 66 kilometres (41 mi) of railway from Barru to Pangkep was inaugurated and operational. As of 2022, it is the only operational part of the railway. [6] [7]

South Sulawesi is a province in the southern peninsula of Sulawesi, Indonesia. The Selayar Islands archipelago to the south of Sulawesi is also part of the province. The capital and largest city is Makassar. There are three noncontinuous railway networks in Sumatra while two new networks are being developed in Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Indonesia has finalized its plan for a national railway network recently. According to the plan, 3,200 km of train tracks will crisscross the islands of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. It has been touted as the most extensive railway project in Indonesia since its independence from the Dutch in 1945. Indonesia targets to extend the national railway network to 10,524 kilometres by 2030. As of September 2022, the network spans 7,032 km.
Parepare is a city (kota) in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, located on the southwest coast of Sulawesi, about 155 km (96 mi) north of the provincial capital of Makassar. A port town, it is one of the major population centers of the Bugis people. The city had a population of 129,542 people at the 2010 Census and 151,454 at the 2020 Census; its official estimate as at mid-2023 was 160,309.

Sam Ratulangi International Airport is an international airport located 13 kilometres north-east of Manado, the capital city of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The airport is named after the Minahasan educator and independence hero Sam Ratulangi (1890–1949). It is designated as one of the 11 main entry ports to Indonesia by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Indonesia and serves as the main gateway to the Bunaken National Marine Park. It is currently the operating base of Lion Air and Wings Air for the north-eastern part of Indonesia and serves international scheduled flights to several destinations in Asia.
The Cepu Forest Railway is a 1,067 mm narrow gauge light logging railway that runs through teak plantations to the northwest of the town of Cepu, in Cepu district, on the boundary between Central and East Java provinces, on the island of Java in Indonesia. It is owned by Perhutani, a state-owned forestry company of Indonesia. Steam traction is still dominant.
The Ambarawa Railway Museum is a museum located in Ambarawa in Central Java, Indonesia. The museum preserves around 21 steam locomotives and focuses on tourism train tours hauled by 3 operational steam engines and a hydraulic diesel engine, using the remains of the closing of the 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm) railway line.
Jatinegara Station (JNG) is a large type A-class railway station located on the border between Jatinegara and Matraman in Pisangan Baru Subdistrict, Matraman, East Jakarta. The station is the main entrance to Jakarta from cities east of Jakarta. Jatinegara station is operated by Kereta Api Indonesia and KAI Commuter.

PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia is a subsidiary of the Indonesian national railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) which manages commuter rail services. Initially founded as an operator of Greater Jakarta commuter rail, the company is currently responsible for several commuter rail and local train systems in Indonesia.

The Cut Meutia is a passenger train service currently operating in Aceh, Indonesia. It was opened in 2016 and currently serves five railway stations in North Aceh and Bireuën Regencies. It is the only operational train service in Aceh.
The Makassar–Parepare railway is a railway line that connects Makassar and Parepare, South Sulawesi, Indonesia with approximately 145 km length. This is the first stage of the construction of the Trans-Sulawesi railway line which is the first railway line in Sulawesi. The process of laying the first stone for the construction of the Makassar–Parepare railway line was carried out on Monday, 18 August 2014 in Siawung Village, Barru District, Barru Regency.
