Sabah is a state of Malaysia located on the northern portion of Borneo, in the region of East Malaysia. Sabah has land borders with the Malaysian state of Sarawak to the southwest and Indonesia's North Kalimantan province to the south. The Federal Territory of Labuan is an island just off the Sabah coast. Sabah shares maritime borders with Vietnam to the west and the Philippines to the north and east. Kota Kinabalu is the state capital city, the economic centre of the state, and the seat of the Sabah state government. Other major towns in Sabah include Sandakan and Tawau. The 2015 census recorded a population of 3,543,500 in the state, and in 2019 it was estimated to have grown to over 3.9 million. Sabah has an equatorial climate with tropical rainforests and abundant animal and plant species. The state has long mountain ranges on the west side which forms part of the Crocker Range National Park. Kinabatangan River, the second longest river in Malaysia runs through Sabah, and Mount Kinabalu is the highest point of Sabah as well as of Malaysia.
Kota Kinabalu, colloquially referred to as KK, is the state capital of Sabah, Malaysia. It is also the capital of the Kota Kinabalu District as well as the West Coast Division of Sabah. The city is located on the northwest coast of Borneo facing the South China Sea. The Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park lies to its west and Mount Kinabalu, which gave the city its name, is located to its east. Kota Kinabalu has a population of 452,058 according to the 2010 census; when the adjacent Penampang and Putatan districts are included, the metro area has a combined population of 628,725.
Inanam is a suburb and sub-district of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia. It is situated 10 kilometres from the city centre.
Sabah State Railway (SSR) is a railway system and operator in the state of Sabah in Malaysia. It is the only rail transport system operating on the island of Borneo. The railway consists of a single 134-kilometre line from Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu in West Coast Division to the town of Tenom, in the Interior Division. It was formerly known as North Borneo Railway.
Gaya Island is a sizeable Malaysian island of 1,465 ha, just 10 minutes off Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and forms part of the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park. Gaya Island derived its name from the Bajau word "Gayo" which means big and occupies an area of 15 km2 with an elevation of up to 300 metres. The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (Malay: Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, abbreviated DBKK; is the city council which administers the city and district of Kota Kinabalu in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. The council consists of the mayor plus twenty-four councillors appointed to serve a one-year term by the Sabah State Government.

Greater Kota Kinabalu refers to the dense clusters of regional populated areas surrounding the city of Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia. The Kota Kinabalu Line is a proposed light rapid transit (LRT) system network in Kota Kinabalu as one of the method to ease traffic congestion in the city. The proposal has been considered, and as reported in the government website, the project was in the ground breaking process under the Kota Kinabalu development plan. The current under construction project of the Aeropod rail station in Tanjung Aru also has made a provision for LRT in their plan.
The BRT Kota Kinabalu is a bus rapid transit (BRT) project to improve bus services in the city of Kota Kinabalu. An allocation of around MYR1 billion has been provided by the Malaysian government under the 2016 Malaysian Budget to implement the project. Currently, the project is under studies between the federal and state governments and it was predicted to be finished in 2020. It has also been lauded by the Prasarana Malaysia, the government-owned company specialise in bus and light metro development, the Chief Minister of Sabah, Musa Aman and various other politicians who said they have been waited for almost 10 years.
Imago KK Times Square Shopping Mall ("Imago") is a one-stop premium shopping mall located at the city centre of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. It was developed and managed by Syarikat Kapasi Sdn. Bhd., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Asian Pac Holdings Berhad, a company listed on the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.
The Kota Kinabalu City Waterfront is a mixed development projects comprising a shopping mall, hotel, city-resort home and boardwalk in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. It is a waterfront revitalisation projects under the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) as part of the efforts to transform Kota Kinabalu into a metropolitan city. Other part of the waterfront is the Jesselton Quay, Kota Kinabalu Convention City and One Jesselton Waterfront, which developed by different developers.
The Jesselton Quay is a mixed development projects comprising a shopping and entertainment centre, hotel and offices in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. It is known as the largest city projects in Sabah with a total cost of MYR1.8 billion modelled after the Singapore's Marina Bay Sands. Together with the Kota Kinabalu Convention City, Kota Kinabalu City Waterfront and One Jesselton Waterfront projects which is developed by different developers, it is part of waterfront revitalisation projects to transform Kota Kinabalu into a metropolitan city.
The One Jesselton Waterfront is a mixed development project comprising a shopping and entertainment centre, condominium and offices in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. Together with the Jesselton Quay, Kota Kinabalu City Waterfront and Kota Kinabalu Convention City which is developed by other developers, it is part of waterfront revitalisation projects to transform Kota Kinabalu into a metropolitan city. Similar like the Jesselton Quay, the project total is around MYR1.8 billion. As 30th of September 2021, this project have been terminated by Gabungan AQRS due to the pandemic.
The North Eastern Sabah Railway Line is a proposed railway line from the city of Kota Kinabalu that would connect Kudat, Sandakan and Tawau as part of the Sabah State Railway line extension plan. The plan was supported by the Malaysian federal government represented by Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai on 17 September 2015. On 21 March 2017, the study to establish the line to Kudat started, with around RM1 million being allocated.
The Tanjung Aru Eco Development is a mixed development project at Tanjung Aru in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, with the addition of resort hotels, residential areas, marinas, entertainment venues, beach clubs and dining areas. The redevelopment areas cover some 340 hectares, which will double the Tanjung Aru park's size to about 30 hectares. Part of the area would be transformed into a rainforest, intended to rejuvenate the Prince Philip Park located nearby. The refurbishment of the park would include a promenade, walking and cycling tracks and an ecology centre, along with the construction of a 133 hectares Greg Norman-designed golf course, seven hotels with 1,800 rooms and 5,000 apartment and condominium units. The project however has been met with criticisms from local conservation groups.
The Western Sabah Railway Line in Sabah, Malaysia is the name given to rail services that operate from Tanjung Aru until Tenom in the West Coast and Interior divisions under the management of Sabah State Railway. The line previously known as North Borneo Railway Line.
