Philips Tanimu Aduda is a Nigerian politician. He served two terms in the Nigerian House of Representatives between 2003 and 2011,and was elected to the Senate for the Abuja Federal Capital Territory [1] in the 9 April 2011 elections,running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) ticket. [2] [3] [4]
Aduda was born in Karu,FCT Abuja. He attended Government Secondary School,Gwagwalada (1983–1987) and Kaduna Polytechnic (1987–1990) for his secondary education. Studying at the University of Jos (1990–1992) he gained a Diploma in Social works and social development. He was a Managing Director of Aduda Nigeria Limited from 1992 to 1995. At the Federal Polytechnic,Bida,Abuja Campus (1993–1997) he gained a Higher Diploma in Public Administration. [5] His brother,Gabriel Aduda is also a Federal Permanent Secretary.
In 1996,Aduda ran as an independent and was elected a Councilor of Karu Ward,Abuja,and held various positions on the Abuja Municipal Area Council. He was elected as Member of the House of Representatives for AMAC/Bwara in Abuja (2003–2007),and was appointed Chairman,of the House committee on Federal Capital Territory,and member of other committees. He was re-elected to representing Bwari Area,Abuja in the House of Representatives in 2008. [5] In October 2009,he was given the Best Performing Legislator Award for his contribution to the development of the people. [6]
Before the 9 April 2011 elections,the Federal Capital Integrity Group and other NGOs declared their support for the candidature of Aduda for the FCT Senate seat. [7] Two days before the election,the Labour Party candidate Kayode Ajulo was abducted by gunmen. [8] In the elections,Aduda won 105,562 votes. His main remaining opponent,Musa Tanko Abari of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC),scored 54,307. [2] After his swearing in,he was appointed Chairman Senate Committee on Power. [9]
On March 28,2015 he was re-elected into the Nigerian Senate for a second term representing Federal Capital Territory. [10] [11] After re-election,his opponent Sani Sidi sued Aduda to the Election Petition Tribunal on grounds of election malpractices but the case was struck out and Adudua was announced legitimate winner of the election. [12] In 2017,he was appointed Senate Miniority Whip. [13] [14]
On 26 February 2019,he was re-elected for a third term into the Nigerian senate. [15] [16] Aduda won with the total vote of 263,055. [17] [18]
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is a federal territory in central Nigeria. Abuja,the capital city of Nigeria,is located in this territory. The FCT was formed in 1976 from parts of the states of old Kaduna,Kwara,Niger,and Plateau states,with the bulk of land mass carved out of Niger state. The Federal Capital Territory is within the North Central region of the country. Unlike other states of Nigeria,which are headed by elected Governors,it is administered by the Federal Capital Territory Administration,headed by a minister,who is appointed by the president.
The Gbari or Gbagyi are an ethnic group found predominantly in Central Nigeria,with an estimated population figure put at 5.8 million,spread in four States,including the FCT,and located in thirty local Government areas,according to the 2006 National Population Census figures. It is also the name of their language. Members of the ethnic group speak two dialects. While speakers of the dialects were loosely called Gwari by both the Hausa Fulani and Europeans during pre-colonial Nigeria they prefer to be known as Gbagyi/Gbari. They live in the Niger,the Federal Capital Territory - Abuja,and Kaduna State. They are also found in Nasarawa central Nigeria Area. Gbagyi/Gbari is one of the most populated ethnic groups in the middle belt and indigenous in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. This means Gbagyi people are the bonafide owners of the Nigerian capital city,Abuja.
Adamu Muhammad Sidi-Ali is a Nigerian politician and farmer. He has run successfully for the offices of Chairman and for the House of Representatives beginning in the early 2000s. In December 2014,he emerged again as the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2015 elections. He is a native of Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory.
Bwari is a local government area in the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria. The original inhabitants of the town are the Gbagyi speaking people. The paramount ruler is the Esu who is otherwise known as Sa-bwaya. However,with the establishment of FCT in Abuja so many changes occurred;such changes include the turbaning of late Musa Ijakoro as District Head of Bwari in 1976,and his elevation as Sarki of Bwari to the position of a second class status in 1997 by the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory under the then minister,General Jeremiah Useni.
Abaji is a local government area in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria,Abuja. The Abaji Area Council is the area council farthest from the city center and occupies approximately 1,100 square kilometers. Created in 1986,the council has a population of over 46,600 inhabitants according to a 2006 national census. As a gateway to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),Abaji is a fast-growing area. There is a notable influx of arrivals,many moving in search of new means of livelihood.
