The Saint Pierre and Miquelon football league system, or league pyramid, refers to the hierarchically interconnected league system for association football in Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

Structure

The Ligue de Football de Saint Pierre et Miquelon is the top-level, and only senior men's competition, featuring just the three clubs, A.S. Ilienne Amateur, A.S. Saint Pierraise, and A.S. Miquelonnaise. Each team plays a total of 16 games during the Summer season with four home and four away matches against both other teams. The season itself is divided into four smaller segments. At the end of the season, the leader in the overall league table is declare the winner of the championship. [1]

There are also organized youth leagues for various age divisions. The youth teams compete both in Saint Pierre and Miquelon and in the lower leagues of Newfoundland, Canada. [1] The archipelago is an associate member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association. [2]

Since 2019 senior women's football has also been revived in the archipelago after being dormant for a number of years. [3]

Cup eligibility

The premier senior men's cup in the territory is the Coupe de l'Archipel. The tournament consists of one match with the first place team of the Ligue SPM facing the second place team in mid September each year. [4] Since 2018–19, a team from Saint Pierre and Miquelon has entered the Coupe de France after a short series of qualifying matches to determine the representative. [5] [6]

In Saint-Pierre and Miquelon there are three amateur clubs, playing only one level. Because of the harsh climate, the league can only be played from the beginning of June and the end of September each year. The current president is Hervé Huet.

The sport of association football in the territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is run by the Football Federation of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. The association administers the national football team, as well as the Ligue de Football de Saint Pierre et Miquelon. Although teams from the archipelago had already been participating in tournaments of the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association, the organization amended its bylaws in October 2019 to make Saint Pierre and Miquelon an associate member.

A.S. Saint Pierraise

Association Sportive Saint-Pierraise or ASSP, is a Saint Pierre and Miquelon football club. Founded in 1903, the club is the oldest football team on the island. The club plays their home fixtures at Stade Léonce Claireaux. Its official colours are green and white.

A.S. Miquelonnaise

Association Sportive Miquelonnaise is a Saint Pierre and Miquelon football club which currently competes in the Ligue SPM. The club plays its home fixtures at Stade de l'Avenir.

A.S. Ilienne Amateur

A.S. Ilienne Amateur is a Saint Pierre and Miquelon football club which currently competes in the Ligue SPM. The club plays its home fixtures at Stade John Girardin. With 28 League titles and 25 Coupe de l'Archipel titles the club is the most successful in the territory's history.
