The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Solo (Arabic : جَامِع ٱلشَّيْخ زَايِد ٱلْكَبِيْر، سوْلو, romanized: Jāmiʿ Aš-Šaykh Zāyid Al-Kabīr, Sōlō; Indonesian : Masjid Raya Sheikh Zayed, Solo) [1] is a mosque in Solo, Indonesia, which is a smaller replica of the grand mosque in Abu Dhabi, the U.A.E. [7] [9] Built at a cost of US$ 20 million (Rp 313.1 billion), it is named in honour of the UAE's founder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. [3] [4] [5]

History

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who was then the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, visited Indonesia in July 2019, and had offered the mosque as a gift to President Widodo. Construction began on Monday the 8th of March, 2021. [5] [10]

On November 14, 2022, President Widodo and his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Mohamed, inaugurated the grand mosque  [ id ]. [3] [4] It was completed on Tuesday the 28th of February, 2023. [1]

The mosque occupies an area of 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft), and can accommodate about 10,000 worshipers. [3] [6] It has 4 minarets and 82 domes in total. Of these, a large central dome is surrounded by 4 smaller ones. The main prayer area has 32 columns. [7] [8] There is also a center for training clerics, which is sponsored by the UAE. [2] [11]

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Abu Dhabi is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Indonesia also has a consulate general in Dubai that opened in February 2003. The first Indonesian ambassador to the UAE was Abdullah Fuad Rachman (1993–1996). The Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Skyway, formerly known as the Jakarta–Cikampek Elevated Toll Road, is a 36.4-kilometre-long (22.6 mi) elevated expressway that extends from Cikunir, Bekasi, to Karawang in West Java, Indonesia, operated by PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek, a subsidiary of PT Jasa Marga Tbk and PT Nusantara Infrastructure Tbk with PT Ranggi Sugiron Perkasa as minority shareholder. It passes over some sections of the existing Jakarta–Cikampek Toll Road. It is the longest flyover in Indonesia and the longest elevated double-decker expressway in Southeast Asia. The toll road was opened by President Joko Widodo on 11 December 2019 and was renamed after Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on 8 April 2021 at the behest of the President's secretary as a "thank-you" for the government of Abu Dhabi naming one of its roads as President Joko Widodo Street.
