Shrikhandi Bhittha or Bhitthamore is an Indian village in the Mithila region of Bihar, situated near the Indo-Nepal border, on the banks of the perennial Ratnawati (Raato) river. [1] [2] [3]

Geography

The village has a border checkpoint at the crossing to Malibara, Jaleshwar, Nepal. Bhitthamore is about 30 kilometres east of its district headquarters, Sitamarhi. National Highway 227 passes through Bhitthamore. Thus it is a gateway to Janakpur, Nepal and parts of Sitamarhi & Madhubani along the border side. [1] [4]

Festivals

The major festival of this area is Chhath Puja in which people offer prayers to Lord Sun. Holi, Diwali, Dussehra, Makar Sankranti, and Eid al-Fitr are also celebrated. [5]

Education

This is the educational hub of the area. There are many private as well as government-run schools.

Economy

It is a developing urban area with a primarily agricultural economy. over the past few years it has shown steady economic growth, this is mainly due to the international border, modernization, changing lifestyles and technical advancement in various fields. [1]

Due to its growing economy, growing demand, improved connectivity & infrastructure, it has become a known centre for trade & commerce. [7]

The village contains a market place named Bhitthamore . [8]

Transportation

Regular bus services are available to various locations in Bihar, with connections to other locations throughout the region. The nearest Nepali airport is 18 kilometres (11 mi) away, at Janakpur; in India, the nearest airport is Darbhanga Airport, 76 kilometres (47 mi) away. [9] [10]

The Sitamarhi-Bhitthamore Road is important for religious reasons as it connects Janakpur, which houses a 200-year-old Janki Temple with Sitamarhi—considered to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita. [11]

National Highway 227 (Old NH-104) passes through Bhitthamore. Thus it is a gateway to Janakpur, Nepal and parts of Sitamarhi & Madhubani along the border side. [12] This road keeps on making headlines of news due to the floods & international border sharing with Nepal. [13]

Health

Although Shrikhandi Bhittha Primary Health Center (Hindi: प्राथमिक स्वास्थ्य केन्द्र, श्रीखंडी भिट्ठा) is available , still there is plenty of room to develop a Hospital as people bound to travel Sitamarhi for any emergency situation. [14]

Phulhar is an ancient historical site in Madhubani district of Mithila region of Bihar, India. It is the place where Lord Rama and Goddess Sita first time met. It was a flower garden of King Janaka of Mithila. A very famous temple of Goddess Bhagwati known as Girija Sthan is situated here. This place is mentioned in many Hindu texts of the ancient India. This place has been recognised by the Government of Bihar in 2020 as tourist centre for Hindu pilgrims. This place is related to Lord Rama.

Gandiveshwar Sthan is a place mentioned in the Hindu mythological epic the Mahabharata and a religious tourist centre for Hindu pilgrims. In the Mahabharata, when the Pandavas were exiled from their kingdom to the forest by the Kauravas, Arjuna hid his Gandiva bow and all his weapons under a shami tree, which adherents believe is at this site.

Maa Janaki Janmbhoomi Mandir or Punaura Dham is a proposed grand temple of princess Sita in Mithila at her birthplace. The site is located at the Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi district of Bihar in India. The site is considered as the appearance place from where Sita was found closed in a box from a farm field while the King Janaka was ploughing the farm field. Ramayana Research Council has proposed the construction of the world's tallest 251-feet statue of Mother Sita at Sitamarhi. There is a plan to build Janaki Dham in Sitamarhi on the lines of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. A grand campus known as Janaki Dham will be built on 57 acres of land near Punauradham. It is expected that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will laid the foundation stone of the Janaki Dham before upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024. The foundation stone of the Janaki Janmasthali Mandir was laid by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of Bihar on 13 December 2023 at Punauradham in Sitamarhi, the place of manifestation of Goddess Janaki.

Janaki Sthan is a historical place related to the temple of Goddess Sita in the city of Sitamarhi. According to some scholars and Saints, Janaki Sthan is claimed to be the manifestation place of Goddess Sita in Ramayana. This is a temple dedicated to the Goddess Sita called Janaki Sthan Mandir. This temple is about 2 kilometers away from Sitamarhi Railway Station. The temple comes under Ramanuja tradition in Hinduism.
