Street Fighter EX3 [1] is a 2D head-to-head fighting game with 3D graphics, developed by Arika and published by Capcom. The game was first released on March 4, 2000 in Japan as a launch title exclusively for the PlayStation 2, making it the first game in the Street Fighter series to be released on the console. It is the third and final console installment in the Street Fighter EX series. Arika released a spiritual successor to the game and series in 2018, called Fighting EX Layer.
Street Fighter EX3 features a similar gameplay system to its predecessor Street Fighter EX2 Plus with characters being able to pull off similar moves like Super Combos and Meteor Combos. However, a difference here is that the "Guard Break" system from the previous installments has been removed and replaced with a similar system called the "Surprise Blow" ("Hard Attack" in Japan), which does not use up energy stored in "super bars," although the attack can be blocked (only when standing).
Other additions are the "Critical Parade" (calling out a tag-partner to simultaneously battle your opponent for a limited time) and "Momentary Combo" (following a special attack with another). Some characters received new moves, such as Skullomania having a vertical projectile.
The core gameplay is essentially the same as previous installments. However, Street Fighter EX3 features Tag Battles, similar to Tekken Tag Tournament , allowing players to switch between characters and offering greater combination possibilities.
In Original Mode, the player can recruit a team of up to four characters that were the last to be defeated by the end of the level, [2] and can choose the next opponent(s), as is possible in Street Fighter III . The bonus stage is a simplified version of the beat 'em up genre. In this mode, there are also missions, which the player can complete in order to gain Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze trophies, which in turn unlock various features.
In Arena Mode, Dramatic Battles are possible, with 2-VS-2, 1-VS-3 (similarly to Battle 1 in Original Mode), or even 2-VS-1 (similarly to Battle 3 in Original Mode, if with a partner) with flexibility via a multitap over each character being controlled by human or computer. Original mode uses new music based on the background stage, while the VS and Team Battle modes reuse themes from earlier games, which are based on the chosen characters.
In Character Edit Mode, the player can complete a series of challenges with the new character, Ace, and earn experience points, which can then be used to obtain new Special Moves and Super Combos for Ace, which can then be applied to him to create a custom move list. A configuration example would be the Shoryuken, Sonic Boom, and Spinning Piledriver, as used by Seth in Street Fighter IV . Ace is also playable in the other available game modes.

Ace (エース, Ēsu) was introduced in Street Fighter EX3, is a government agent ordered by the prime minister of his nation to find information about a secret weapon being developed in an underground base. Ace uses a custom fighting style, which the player can edit by passing a series of trials in the game's Character Edit mode. He was designed originally with the idea of implementing a side-scrolling action game mode into the title. [3]

Street Fighter EX3 received "mixed" reviews according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. [4] Maxim gave it a mixed review almost two weeks before the PlayStation 2 launch. [19]
Jeff Gerstmann of GameSpot complained in his review of the Japanese import that the character animation is unimproved from Street Fighter EX2 and found the frequent sound changes jarring, but liked the sound effects and the bonus touches to the gameplay such as the stage which plays during the credits. He commented, "The tag-team fighting adds a nice new element that the previous game totally lacked. EX3 may feel a bit rushed in some spots, but overall it's a fun and great-looking fighting game that won't disappoint longtime EX fans." [15] Chester "Chet" Barber of NextGen said of the game, "The EX series has always fallen short of the quality of many of the 2D Street Fighter games. However, if you're a fan, you probably won't be able to stop yourself from checking it out." [17] In Japan, however, Famitsu gave it a score of 32 out of 40. [10] Uncle Dust of GamePro said of the game, "When it comes down to it, this is just a prettier version of the PlayStation's EX series, but it's not pretty enough to make up for its so-so combat. Street Fighter III: New Generation is a 1997 fighting game in Capcom's Street Fighter series, originally released as a coin-operated arcade game. The game, which was designed as a direct sequel to Street Fighter II (1991), initially discarded every previous character except for Ryu and Ken, introducing an all-new roster led by Alex. Likewise, a new antagonist named Gill took over M. Bison's role from the previous games as the new boss character.

Major Guile is a fictional character from Capcom's Street Fighter series of fighting games. He debuted as one of the original eight World Warriors in 1991's Street Fighter II and appeared in the game's subsequent updates. In the games he is portrayed as a major in the United States Air Force who is seeking to avenge the death of his Air Force buddy Charlie at the hands of the villainous dictator M. Bison.
X-Men vs. Street Fighter is a crossover fighting video game developed and published by Capcom. It is Capcom's third fighting game to feature Marvel Comics characters, following X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes, and is the first installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. As the title suggests, the game includes characters from Marvel's X-Men franchise and the cast from Capcom's Street Fighter series. Originally released as a coin-operated arcade game in 1996, it was ported to the Sega Saturn in 1997 and the PlayStation in 1998. The original arcade version is included in the game lineup for Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Windows in 2024.
Vega, also known as Balrog, is a fictional character from the Street Fighter fighting game series by Capcom. Vega is a mask-wearing, claw-wielding fighter from Spain who uses a personal fighting style combining Japanese ninjutsu and Spanish bullfighting, earning him the nickname of "Spanish Ninja".
Tekken Tag Tournament is a 1999 fighting game and the fourth installment in the Tekken series. Not canon to the main storyline, Tekken Tag Tournament features nearly all the characters in the previous Tekken games and introduces a two-on-two 'tag team' battle mechanic. It was released as an arcade game, before becoming a North American and European launch title for the PlayStation 2 in 2000. The arcade version ran on the same Namco System 12 board with a 32-bit engine as Tekken 3, while the ported home console version received upgraded graphics.

Street Fighter Alpha 3, released as Street Fighter Zero 3 in Japan, Asia, South America, and Oceania, is a 2D fighting game originally released by Capcom for the arcade in 1998. It is the third and final installment in the Street Fighter Alpha sub-series, which serves as a sequel to Street Fighter Alpha 2, and ran on the same CP System II hardware as previous Alpha games. The game was produced after the Street Fighter III sub-series has started, being released after 2nd Impact, but before 3rd Strike. Alpha 3 further expanded the playable fighter roster from Street Fighter Alpha 2 and added new features such as selectable fighting styles called "isms".

Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes is a 1998 crossover fighting game produced by Capcom on the CP System II arcade system. It is the third installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, which features characters from Capcom's video game franchises and characters from Marvel Comics. Unlike the series' previous entry, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter (1997), this sequel features characters from numerous Capcom video game franchises, rather than strictly Street Fighter characters. While the gameplay is largely identical to its predecessor, Clash of Super Heroes features two distinct changes: the removal of the traditional character assist system and the introduction of the "Variable Cross" attack.
Arika is a Japanese video game developer and publisher. It was formed in 1995 by former Capcom employees. It was originally known as ARMtech K.K, but was later named Arika. The name of the company is the reverse of the name of the company's founder, Akira Nishitani, who along with Akira Yasuda, created Street Fighter II. Arika's first game was Street Fighter EX. It was successful and was followed up with two updates, and its two sequels Street Fighter EX2 and Street Fighter EX3. In 2018, they released a spiritual successor to both Street Fighter EX and Fighting Layer, titled Fighting EX Layer. From 2019 to 2021, Arika collaborated with Nintendo to create the battle royale games Tetris 99, Super Mario Bros. 35, and with Bandai Namco for Pac-Man 99. Arika is also known for the Tetris: The Grand Master series, the Dr. Mario series, starting with Dr. Mario Online Rx, and the Endless Ocean series.
Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000, also known as simply Capcom vs. SNK in international releases, is a 2000 head-to-head fighting game produced by Capcom originally released as a coin-operated arcade game for Sega's NAOMI hardware and later ported to the Dreamcast. It is the second game in the SNK vs. Capcom series and the first game in the series to be released for the arcade.
Street Fighter EX2 is a 2D head-to-head fighting game with 3D graphics co-produced by Capcom and Arika and originally released in 1998 as a coin-operated arcade game for the Sony ZN-2 hardware. It is the sequel to the original Street Fighter EX, and the second spin-off game of the Street Fighter series. An updated version of the game titled Street Fighter EX2 Plus was released in 1999 in arcades as well and subsequently ported to the PlayStation the same year. Its sequel, Street Fighter EX3, was released in 2000.

Fighting EX Layer is a 2018 fighting video game produced by Arika. It is a spiritual successor to Fighting Layer (1998) and the Street Fighter EX series (1996–2000), which Arika had developed, and features many of the same characters from the latter. The game was released originally for PlayStation 4, with ports for Microsoft Windows and arcades following. A mobile version of the game, titled Fighting EX Layer -α, was later released for iOS and Android devices in 2019, and a port to Nintendo Switch titled Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash was released in 2021.
