Light Regional Council is a local government area north of Adelaide in South Australia. It is based in the town of Kapunda, and includes the towns of Freeling, Greenock, Hansborough, Hewett, Roseworthy and Wasleys.
Roseworthy is a small town in South Australia, about 10 km north of Gawler on the Horrocks Highway. At the 2016 census, Roseworthy had a population of 994.
Riverton is a small town in the Mid North of South Australia, in the Gilbert Valley. It is situated on the Gilbert River, from which the town derives its name. Both the Gilbert Valley and Gilbert River were named after South Australian pioneer, Thomas Gilbert. Riverton was first settled in 1856, as a settlement along the bullock track from the mining town of Burra to the capital city Adelaide. It grew from a plan designed by a James Masters who had established the nearby town of Saddleworth. The streets of Riverton received their names chiefly from James Masters and his friends. They commemorate persons notable in the history of the district or the State. At the 2011 census, Riverton had a population of 810. Including the rural areas surrounding the town, the population was 1213.
Main North Road is the major north-south arterial route through the suburbs north of the Adelaide City Centre in the city of Adelaide, South Australia. It continues north through the settled areas of South Australia and is a total of 307 kilometres (191 mi) long, from North Adelaide to 21 kilometres (13 mi) out of Port Augusta. It follows the route established in the early years of the colony by explorer John Horrocks and was a major route for farmers and graziers to reach the capital, passing through rich farmland and the Clare Valley wine region. In 2011, the section of road between Gawler to Wilmington was renamed Horrocks Highway.
Auburn is a small town in the southern edge of the Clare Valley, in the Mid North of South Australia.
The Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council is a local government area located in the Yorke and Mid North region of South Australia. The council was founded on 1 July 1997 with the amalgamation of the District Council of Clare, the District Council of Riverton and the District Council of Saddleworth and Auburn. The council seat is located at Clare; it also maintains branch offices at Riverton and Saddleworth.
Mintaro is a historic town in the eastern Clare Valley, east of the Horrocks Highway, about 126 kilometres north of Adelaide, South Australia. The town lies at the south-eastern corner of the Hundred of Clare, within the Clare Valley wine region. Established in 1849, Mintaro is situated on land which was bought originally by Joseph and Henry Gilbert, which they sub-divided into 80 allotments.
Giles Corner is the name of the intersection of Main North Road and the Barrier Highway, halfway between the towns of Tarlee and Rhynie. The Barrier Highway branches off from Horrocks Highway at this location, heading north towards Riverton, Burra and eventually Broken Hill. Horrocks Highway continues in a northerly direction, on to the towns of Rhynie, Auburn and Clare. There is also an unsealed back road starting just north of the junction which heads west and ends at the road between Balaklava and Owen, approximately 20 kilometres away. Although not a town, Giles Corner is sign posted to mark its location.
Saddleworth is a small town in the Mid North region of South Australia. The town is situated on the Gilbert River and along with neighbouring towns of Riverton, Rhynie and Tarlee the local area is known as the Gilbert Valley. The town is bisected by the Barrier Highway. At the 2016 census, Saddleworth had a population of 470.
Hamley Bridge is a community in South Australia located at the junction of the Gilbert and Light rivers, as well as the site of a former railway junction.
Rhynie is a small town in South Australia, halfway between Tarlee and Auburn, along the Horrocks Highway. It was surveyed and founded in 1859.

Stockport is a small town 73 kilometres (45 mi) north of Adelaide and 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of Tarlee in South Australia. It was laid out on section 1283, Hundred of Light in 1845 by Samuel Stocks junior, naming it for his birthplace, Stockport in Cheshire, England.
Gulnare is a settlement in South Australia. At the 2006 census, Gulnare had a population of 95. It is where the east-west Goyder Highway crosses the former Gladstone-Balaklava railway, and about a kilometre east of the south-north Horrocks Highway, 188 kilometres (117 mi) north of Adelaide. The railway was built as narrow gauge in 1894 and converted to broad gauge in 1927. The railway had been closed by 1993.
Woolshed Flat is a locality near the southern end of the Clare Valley in South Australia. It is located in the District Council of Clare and Gilbert Valleys.
The Clare Valley is a valley located in South Australia about 100 kilometres north of Adelaide in the Clare and Gilbert Valleys council area. It is the river valley formed by the Hutt River but is also strongly associated with the roughly parallel Hill River. The valley is traversed by the Horrocks Highway and the towns in the valley along that route from south to north are Auburn, Leasingham, Watervale, Penwortham, Sevenhill and Clare. The geographical feature has given rise to the Clare Valley wine region designation, a notable winegrowing region of Australia.
The 2015 Pinery bushfire was a bushfire that burned from 25 November to 2 December 2015, and primarily affected the Lower Mid North and west Barossa Valley regions immediately north of Gawler in the Australian state of South Australia. At least 86,000 hectares of scrub and farmland in the council areas of Light, Wakefield, Clare and Gilbert Valleys, and Mallala were burned during its duration.
The Roseworthy-Peterborough railway line was a railway line on the South Australian Railways network. It extended from a junction at Roseworthy on the Morgan railway line through Hamley Bridge, Riverton, initially to Tarlee, then extended in stages to Peterborough.
The Hundred of Gilbert is a cadastral unit of hundred in the northern Mount Lofty Ranges including the town of Riverton. It is one of the nine hundreds of the County of Light. It was proclaimed in 1851 by Governor Henry Young and named after the Gilbert River, which flows from north to south through the hundred. The river, in turn, was named in honour of South Australian pioneer Thomas Gilbert.
The South Australian Railways A Class Locomotives arrived for the South Australian Railways in September and October 1868 from Robert Stephenson and Company. A third and final locomotive was ordered and arrived in 1873, these locomotives were withdrawn between 1893 and 1924 from the SAR after many years of hard service.
