The Baby-Sitters Club is an American live-action television series based on Ann M. Martin's children's novel series of the same name. The series, which aired from August 15, 1990 to February 3, 1993, started out as a direct-to-video series before moving to HBO, [2] and was produced by Scholastic Productions.

Broadcast and syndication

The first four episodes of The Baby-Sitters Club were released exclusively on VHS by GoodTimes Home Video in August 1990 and August 1991. The series then moved to HBO, where nine episodes premiered as monthly specials from November 1991 to February 1993. [2] The series was later rerun on Disney Channel, from early October 1994 [3] to January 1997. [4]

The series was released between June 16, 1993 and January 1, 1998 on thirteen individual VHS tapes each containing one episode. [5] The entire series was released to Amazon streaming services on December 13, 2013 [6] with other streaming services following on May 20, 2014. [7] [8]

The Baby-Sitters Club is a series of novels, written by Ann M. Martin and published by Scholastic between 1986 and 2000, that sold more than 190 million copies. Martin wrote an estimated 60-80 novels in the series while subsequent titles were written by ghostwriters, such as Peter Lerangis. The Baby-Sitters Club is about a group of friends living in the fictional, suburban town in Stoneybrook, Connecticut who run a local babysitting service called "The Baby-Sitters Club". The original four members were Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier (secretary), Claudia Kishi (vice-president), and Stacey McGill (treasurer), but the number of members varies throughout the series. The novels are told in first-person narrative and deal with issues such as illness, moving, and divorce.
